I too had my issues with bits of this book, but I was always cheered by two things - the fact that Cornell was obviously writing with enormous regard for Ellis-era Authority and also Planetary (that scale and weirdness), and also the affectionate and respectful way he described the Apollo-Midnighter 'romance' (his word) in interviews. So I'm concerned which aspects of his take on this book didn't meet with editorial approval :|

And all else aside, man, I am *so sick* of the Authority getting dicked around with writer changes and editorial. Yeah, I know it's not the Authority but it's the closest we're getting, and behold, editorial are jacking it about yet again. Why am I surprised...

Yeah, I loved that.

Personally I really like Cornell, he's been my favourite relaunch author (I love him on Demon Knights too), so I'm absolutely gutted. :(

Yes, I've enjoyed Cornell a lot. I agree that some of his pacing's felt a bit off and some of the dialogue's been exposition-heavy, but he was getting into his stride, had some terrific ideas, and I felt his genuine Ellis vibe made up for everything else :(

Yeah, there was a lot of exposition but a lot of the other relaunch titles had the same thing, so I was more than willing to wait it out. I really liked where he was going, and he seemed really passionate about it. =/

I cannot second this comment enough.

I did love how enthusiastic Cornell was about writing Apollo and Midnighter in a proper relationship and really, really hope that's not one of the things lost between team changes.
