Your NOW icons look incredible. You've really got a stellar talent in cutting people out of backgrounds. I still struggle at that so I avoid it but you seem to have it down. :) I also really like that tumblr graphic, I've actually enjoyed all of your tumblr graphics in Hide & Seek. The coloring is always so... out of this world. Plus they always fit the vibe you're trying to set. :)
The original screencaps for the NOW icons have almost plain background that makes it easier to erase or wash out. I almost always pick screencaps with plain or empty background to use if I need to cut people out of the background.
Sometimes when editing, I set a duplicate screencap layer to screen then add another blank layer which I fill with a color and set to darken and it somehow erases or washes out the background.
It works for icons but I haven't tried it with bigger graphics because sometimes the details can be seen.
I've only cut people out of backgrounds for a big graphic once this phase for hide and seek category blending. It was difficult because I used layer masks and had to make sure everything that needed to be seen could be seen (it was Loki's face, I had to make sure his nose didn't look weird... LOL).
LOL. I'm joking, my images I use don't usually have that luxury but sometimes I'll just use the background they are on as the background with the other images so it works out. Your way sounds interesting though.
