True Blood: It made me sick too; sicker than Seeing Red did and I didn't think that was possible. (Also, I was right. They didn't do the trunk thing.)

I KNOW. I mean, I am a huge horror geek -- there's not a lot that offends me. But the confluence of sex, violence against women, and the complete lack of fictional vampire violence cues (except for her screaming how she wanted it and loved him, which, imo, makes it worse), it's just disgusting. Much like Seeing Red, as you say, and for much the same reasons, except of course, Buffy very clearly did not want it.

Another thing that infuriates me about both of these is the way they're treated both in text and by the writers -- as just some throwaway plot point to forward their story. It's really repulsive.

Yeah, they didn't do the trunk thing -- they never could have gotten away with that. Although Spike got away with "almost" doing it with visceral violence. Of course, that's because he was the writers' and the audience's golden boy, and by that point could pretty much do no wrong.

I KNOW. I mean, I realize he's kind of a jerk in real life -- I don't think I'll ever get that phone call with him calling his kid a PIG out of my head.

Yeah, I don't have any excuse for liking his support of a cause that's important to me. Or for thinking he's a really funny actor. *sigh* I'm so cheap and easy.

probably not the right place for this comment, but can I tell you how much I loved A Big Universe of Suck. Finished reading it last week. Something old was great, but this particular story may have been my favorite.

Gee, living in Italy has shielded me from knowing about Alec Baldwin being a jerk. Was happier not knowing...

Sorry, didn't mean to blow the Alec thing for you. I of course don't know all the details, just what was reported on the tabloid TV shows -- he and Kim Basinger's divorce and custody stuff apparently got really ugly. I'll just leave it at that. My professional recommendation for denial is plugging your ears, closing your eyes and going "Lalalalalalalalala."

That's what I do, anyway. ;)
