YES! I admit, I'd only heard of it in passing before this, and I have yet to see the source material, but I have read a lot of things the original creators said about trying to make it authentic and respectful of the cultures represented. Which, hi, AREN'T WHITE PEOPLE'S CULTURES. And that the creators of the movie just... completely disregarded that? For some freaking "oh, characters of color don't sell" LIE is... just mind boggling. Assholes, the ORIGINAL CHARACTERS ARE CHARACTERS OF COLOR, AND THE FANS LOVE THEM JUST FINE. WTF?

I'm going to add it to my anime list, which right now is still thankfully only at three. :D

Also, I licked your icon. *G* Hi Dave! Hi!

Mmmm. If you like Kahlan, have you checked out Elizabeth Hayden's books? The names are escaping me, but I think of those in the same mindspace that I think of the Seeker books. And *totally* agree about Denna and Kahlan.

No, the name doesn't ring a bell. I'll have to take a look around.

The Seeker books are SO dense, that the show barely skims the surface, but I'm enjoying it anyway. Lots of kick ass, strong women characters that I can never get enough of!

Definitely worth checking out Haydon (I misspelled first time!). The main character is a woman there, and it's similarly 'epic' in type. One of the few "hero's journey" novels I can think up where the hero is a woman. The series (I think there are 5 or 6 of them so far) is sold under the fantasy genre, but it's damned close to fantasy romance inside epic fantasy structure.

Ooh, thank you for re-spelling! I added the first book to my TBR list. I'll check it out of the library on my next pass -- I'm in the mood for something new, and I haven't read any fantasy in a while. I prefer female protagonists, and they seem so few and far between. That's part of the reason I love Dark Fantasy and Paranormal Romance so much: most of the kick ass heroines are women. :D

Thank you for the rec!
