Wow. This made me really stop and think. Pointed out by
wistfuljane. First, check out the beautiful artwork HERE. It's by vito_excalibur, and it absolutely BLEW my mind.
Now, think about it in terms of
thefourthvine's commentary: Because the thing is - there is one thing different in this picture, and it changes everything. Imagine these guys driving through small southern towns in their big black car with all manner of guns. Imagine these guys running credit card scams, and trying to talk their way into strangers' houses, and, you know, the other stuff that Dean and Sam do. (Sorry, we have reached the limit of my osmotic fannish knowledge.) It would be a whole different narrative, I'll tell you that for free.
That's some meta commentary, right there.
And speaking of
wistfuljane and racism food for thought, I have been hearing about the racist casting of The Last Airbender, but I hadn't SEEN it put so succinctly before:
"racebending.com updated their site. One update is their casting comparision pictures:
Aang, Katara, Sokka and Zuko from Avatar: The Last Airbender.
Noah Ringer as Aang, Nicola Peltz as Katara, Jackson Rathbone as Sokka and Dev Patel as Zuko from The Last Airbender.
Another is their petition: Join the Boycott: Aang can stay Asian and still save the world."
To know about it and think it shocking is one thing -- to see it like that is... o_O Whut? It's bad enough that the heroes have been completely whitewashed, but worse still is that the VILLAIN is being played by a person of color! WTF is that shit?
FAIL, Hollywood. Again.

In happier news, I have a new hero! OMG she is so awesome -- Kahlan Amnell from Legend of the Seeker. She is BADASS, dudes. Ain't no damseling going on here, either. I am just LOVING Legend of the Seeker. Denna the Dominatrix is another favorite. And HEY! I knew I recognized Darken Rahl (the villain) -- he was Haldir in Lord of the Rings! And Richard is frakking HOT, yo.
I NEED MORE ICON SPACES GODDAMNIT!!!!
