Grumpy sick mutterings

With GPS technology so widely available these days, why do people still ask directions? =_=; Professionals like repairmen and roofers should be able to afford these things. I'm only annoyed because this is the third time in the past few months I've had to give directions to someone. Come on, folks, you know what you're getting into asking ( Read more... )

While I heartily endorse griping when one feels as rotten as you do, I give you emokitty in honor of your 'bitchwhinemoan' tag. (God bless NyQuil. It is truly the ambrosia of the ill.)

Giving directions is much the same as you describe here in the South. When roads aren't labelled (or are named something as unlikely as 'County Road 1037') landmarks become a critical navigational component.

The only difference down here, as far as I can tell, is that we're more likely to give directions including landmarks that no longer exist. "And then you turn left at the field where the Harris' barn burned down twenty years ago..."

I remember getting directions in rural Georgia one time. My grandfather was so mad with how UN-helpful they were. I couldn't stop giggling at how ridiculous it was. I think they did use the no-longer there landmark method.

I wish NyQuil worked as well for me as emokitty does.

Hey, I just started reading Patricia Briggs! I had no idea you were into her. I finished Moon Called on Tuesday at work and then started Blood Bound. I figure I'll get caught up on the Mercy Thompson series before starting the Alpha and Omega series. The fourth Mercy book comes out soon, it's called Bone Crossed. I'm liking her stuff so far, but then again, I always have preferred Werewolves, heh.

You know, it's good stuff. Mercy's a very good leading lady and the action is good, the setting and supernatural creatures are very believable together. It reminds me quite a bit of the early Anita Blake books (when they were still good). Let me know if you want to borrow any of the books, though I know you can get them from work, too.
