League 1977 - Chapter one

For reasons unknown, here's a starting chapter of a story I wrote a ways back...part of a rather larger 'project' I dabble in from time to time, called The League. Here's the pitch...basically inspired by Alan Moore's THE LEAGUE OF EXTRAORDINARY GENTLEMEN (the comic, not the terrible movie), which assembled all manner of characters from Victorian ( Read more... )

Good Morning Mr Visitor, This is Hmowen who has occasionaly posted in the past on the Buffybot Adventures Forums, old and new. (And how is Sky Hard coming?) I enjoy the League adventures very much and hope a new installment arrived in the not too distant future. I am old enough that the sixties and seventies references come right away. Lets hope Samantha is able to assist Mrs Crabtree in her predictament.

What is Samantha doing here? It strikes me as unlikly she would just leave her family to go adventuring without a good reason. Darren would not appove and Endora, well, the Endora-Barnabas meeting would be something to see-- from a safe distance.

About the references, I knew most of them, google the rest but am stumped on two.

1) The A.O.D. prototype multi-environmental civil transport. Where's it from?

2) Haven project, no idea.

Thanks for the good stories. Hugh

Howdy Hugh, glad to see ya. Thanks for reading!

Smanatha has reasons. We'll see if I ever get around to explaining them. :)

The A.O.D. is the AIR-O-DOODLE, from the Howdy Doodie Show. And the Haven project is a reference to the short-lived 1977 sci-fi show FUTURE COP:

As for Sky Hard, i WILL get it done soon. got sidetracked, but it's a coming!

thanks for the reply. Now if I can just figure out why my copy of the Complete Guide to Network and Cable Prime Time Programs, ignores Future Cop. (A show I saw back in 1977, but only vaguely remembered.) And I should have checked TVACRES.com, a good tv reference source.

As for Samantha, I have a theory. Tabitha was born in 1966, Adam in 1969. So in 1977 she should have been 11. But wait in the spin off show Tabitha (aired 1977) Tabitha and Adam are in their early twenties and Samantha, Darren and Endora are not seen. Yet by 2002 (original League series chapter four), Tabitha says her mother told her of her time in the League. Conclusion something happened in 1976-77 to magically age Tabitha and Adam and cause Samnantha to be estranged from the rest of the family. Or else I have way to much time on my hands.

thanks again Hugh
