I kind of want to go to the zoo now, but it is hard to express sympathy though bear-resistant glass.

This is lovely. Kids are capable of being incredibly awesome like this, and you captured it well. <3

Thanks! I was reading the article about the questions kids asked about Ida's death and how to talk to your kids about her death and stuff, and it really struck me. I loved those bears, they have been there for most of my life and I know them well.

I remember the "here's how to talk to your kids" stuff at the Seneca Park Zoo, when Genny C the elephant had a stillborn calf 14 months through the 22 month gestation. Was sad, sad, sad...the zoo was creating an elephant family park and there was this huge "Bucks for the Baby!" thing that was everywhere, and it was all while I was pregnant with Alex so I was extra-sad that I had a baby and Genny didn't.

Aw, that is super sad! Poor Genny.

It is tough with animals partly because we *can't* communicate with them fully, 100%. We can get a sense of their feelings, but we can't talk to them the same way and it makes it hard.

So did Natalia! I like to think she became a regular visitor and made her parents get an annual pass.
