Meanwhile, my vision sucked long before I got diabetes. :) But I did get diabetes eye screening every time I went to the eye doctor, though, since there was a family history of type 1 to worry about (so, of course, I come down with type 2 once my guard is down). I'm something like 20/400 without glasses. The farthest I can see clearly without glasses is about 15cm (although I have exceptional pattern-recognition skills, letting me function a lot better than one might expect without glasses). On the plus side, my near point is about 7cm, so bifocals are not in my near future.
I'll admit that I found it morbidly amusing that I was diagnosed while in a long-term career which involved working a lot with computers. I'd even said previously that if I was going to be crippled or disabled, I'd be mostly OK as long as I had my vision and fingers (paraplegia and deafness, for example, aren't so much of a problem in IT).
So of course I get a condition which is best known for causing blindness and loss of extremities. Someone's laughing somewhere.
