"Seriously, when is the last time you've decorated a tree?"  Elena stood back with an amused look as she watched Elijah reaching to put the star on top of their Christmas tree.  "And I mean you, not the servants ( Read more... )

Elijah was fussing with the star, because, really, with his obsession with things being perfectly arranged, how could he not? It was one of the reasons he rarely actually decorated things himself--it could take him forever. Taking the ornament he observed the tree carefully, looking for the best spot, spatially and relationally, head tilting as he studied it. Probably, he was driving her a bit mad with the exactness, but the tree would be kind of stunning when they were done, and he liked it, too ( ... )

"But that would ruin the surprise...." He shifted with her, one arm wrapping around her waist, the other hand brushing lightly over her cheek.

"It doesn't ruin the surprise at all." She corrected him with a clever little smirk. "The only thing that would be ruined is the timing of when I find out what the surprise is. Which can be sooner than later."

He shook his head a little, stubborn. "It's not ready..." He knew what he wanted to do, the things not to have Jeremy here for, but he also had some need for for more courage before he got there.

"What do you mean it's not ready?" She asked him curiously, half teasing as she wasn't really pushing him to tell her even if she wanted to know.

"I mean it's not ready," he said with a look. "It needs a bit more...preparation."

She pressed her lips together under the power of the look but then she smiled again, setting her chin against his chest. "How much more?"

That was the question of the hour, but he considered it, then hazarded a guess. "A few days?"

She groaned a bit as she pressed her face against his chest, closing her eyes. "Fine. Just make me wait."

"That's the plan." He reached down, tilting her head up and brushing a kiss over her lips.

Tilting her head back, she took the soft kiss with a small smile as she finally relented in trying to figure out what her present was. "Fine, I'll try to be patient." She stole another kiss before leaning back a bit. "Even if it's mean."

Okay, she hadn't been able to resist one last teasing remark and she chuckled again as her eyes danced with fond amusement.

Elijah smiled at the touch of her lips, the way she smiled. It made him happy to see her happy.

"It will be worth it." He hoped. "And we'll do it alone, before Jeremy gets here."

"Hmm." She made the soft noise of consideration against his lips. "That means I need to go out and get your present...like now." Though she really didn't seem to be in a rush to move away from him. "Or in the morning."

"I think you'll have far better luck in the morning." He kissed her again, nibbling at her lower lip a bit. "We need to finish the tree, after all..."

A shiver rolled through her as he kept her close and started to nibble on her lip, the feel of his teeth over her tender flesh causing a bit of heat to accompany the shiver. "What tree?" She murmured somewhat breathlessly.

The breathless note was more than a little appealing, but he pulled back all the same and gave her an amused look, tilting his head toward the tree.

"That one. Unless you have a better idea..."
