Elijah was in the library reading and sipping at a glass of wine someone had left for him. For the moment, he had no idea where his siblings had wandered for the night, and he thought he probably should care, but he felt fairly certain they were safe for the moment. Going out was just...too annoying to think of.
The sound at the door had him raising his head, though, frowning. The whisper of his name made it through the door, though, and had him on his feet, moving toward the door in a blur and yanking it open. Even with the sound, there was a stunned look in his eyes as he saw what was there--who was there.
"Elena..." He dropped to his knees and reached for her.
She was momentarily thrown off balance as the door swung open, taking away what was propping her up as she slumped halfway into his house while he dropped to his knees. As she lifted her head, her eyes started to change, bleeding into the dark look of a vampire as she felt her fangs popping out as well.
The hunger was unbearable now.
"Please..." She rasped, reaching out for him as well, her hand curling around his arm.
He caught her and stood again, pulling her up into his arms and fully inside, kicking the door shut. He wanted to snarl at someone--anyone--for the state she was in. It was clearly recognizable, after all these years, and he was cursing everyone silently under his breath.
There was blood in the kitchen, but he did the first thing that came to mind to ease the pain she was in. He offered his wrist.
"Here. Drink." She'd transitioned--it would do. Mikael had lived on vampire blood for a thousand years, and Elijah figured his had to be some of the most potent in the world.
Elena wanted to tell him no but the denial didn't reach her lips as she realized then that he would be safe to drink from. He was a vampire, not a human, and there would be no risk of killing him. He would be safe and then the ache would be gone. The powerful hunger would be sated and she would be able to breathe again.
Giving a little nod, she moved her hand around his arm, her grip surprisingly strong for those who knew her from before the change, and she held onto him as she looked at his wrist for a moment before giving in. She bit him then, her fangs sinking into his skin as she groaned at the first rush of blood. It was heavenly, tasting better than she could have ever anticipated, and she closed her eyes in bliss as she started to drink.
Elijah did his best to keep Rebekah from asking any questions the next. Until he knew for certain what was going on, knew what she'd do, what Elena wanted, how deep and far her time in the city might go...it seemed best to just. Keep them separated.
But he was as good as his word, coming to the hotel the next day. It wasn't hard to wrangle Elena's room out of the desk clerk, and he moved up to it, knocking lightly on the door, pretending to be far more comfortable with this than he really felt.
Elena looked up in surprise at the knock on her door but then she realized who it was as it could only be one person. Pushing off the bed, she moved to answer the door, pulling it open with a small smile as she found Elijah standing there.
"Hello, Elena." Elijah gave her a smile in return, though, it had to be admitted, that uncertainty flickered in his eyes a bit, unsure of how to talk to her, exactly.
The uncertainty in him caused an echo of the same feeling in her as suddenly she found herself uncertain too. The smile faltered a bit as she leaned against the door, wondering if somehow, for some reason, he regretted the night before.
"Hello." She echoed him before shrugging a bit, trying to smile again. "I'm okay. Did you want to come in?"
Stepping back, she let him into the room which was only that. Just one long room with a double bed, a very small couch and not much else. There definitely wasn't a lot of room either.

"How are you?"
So banal, but it seemed best, for now.
