Elijah was in the library reading and sipping at a glass of wine someone had left for him. For the moment, he had no idea where his siblings had wandered for the night, and he thought he probably should care, but he felt fairly certain they were safe for the moment. Going out was just...too annoying to think of.

The sound at the door had him raising his head, though, frowning. The whisper of his name made it through the door, though, and had him on his feet, moving toward the door in a blur and yanking it open. Even with the sound, there was a stunned look in his eyes as he saw what was there--who was there.

"Elena..." He dropped to his knees and reached for her.

She was momentarily thrown off balance as the door swung open, taking away what was propping her up as she slumped halfway into his house while he dropped to his knees. As she lifted her head, her eyes started to change, bleeding into the dark look of a vampire as she felt her fangs popping out as well.

The hunger was unbearable now.

"Please..." She rasped, reaching out for him as well, her hand curling around his arm.

He caught her and stood again, pulling her up into his arms and fully inside, kicking the door shut. He wanted to snarl at someone--anyone--for the state she was in. It was clearly recognizable, after all these years, and he was cursing everyone silently under his breath.

There was blood in the kitchen, but he did the first thing that came to mind to ease the pain she was in. He offered his wrist.

"Here. Drink." She'd transitioned--it would do. Mikael had lived on vampire blood for a thousand years, and Elijah figured his had to be some of the most potent in the world.

Elena wanted to tell him no but the denial didn't reach her lips as she realized then that he would be safe to drink from. He was a vampire, not a human, and there would be no risk of killing him. He would be safe and then the ache would be gone. The powerful hunger would be sated and she would be able to breathe again.

Giving a little nod, she moved her hand around his arm, her grip surprisingly strong for those who knew her from before the change, and she held onto him as she looked at his wrist for a moment before giving in. She bit him then, her fangs sinking into his skin as she groaned at the first rush of blood. It was heavenly, tasting better than she could have ever anticipated, and she closed her eyes in bliss as she started to drink.

His breath caught when she bit, the sense of her strength strangely thrilling. She still felt fragile against him, but she wasn't. Not that he'd truly had her against him before except when tugging her down into the hole. Or when she was sliding the dagger into his chest.

Such happy memories.

He wanted to know why she was here, what she wanted, how she got here, why she was in this state, but that was all secondary to easing her hunger, and he shuddered at the pull of blood, the fingers of his other hand slipping into her hair, allowing himself that small intimacy, given what he was already giving.

The small intimacy was comforting to her though and a strange flicker of contentment crossed her features as she kept her eyes closed as his blood surged through her to chase the hunger away. It really didn't take much to make her feel better but she needed to feel full at the moment and she continued to drink till she finally pulled away with a gasp. His blood stained her lips even as the veins around her eyes faded away and her features looked normal once more.

Licking her lips, she took a second to enjoy it before she suddenly looked sheepish, her eyes flickering open as she looked at him. For a moment she didn't know what to say as she opened and closed her mouth before pressing her lips together.

"Thank you." She murmured. "I didn't know where else to go."

He was going to need to feed, now, but it was worth it. He certainly had no intention of stopping her until she'd had her fill. When she pulled back, he let her find her bearings before letting her go, stepping back a safe distance. Safe from what, he didn't know. Reaching in his pocket, he pulled out his handkerchief, just to wipe off the wound as it worked to heal.

Her comment just brought up all the questions, though. "Why?" he asked. "What are you doing here?" How did she get in that state?

"I saw you earlier..." She admitted, licking her lips again before ducking her head and turning away as she wiped at her mouth to get rid of the blood. Then she swallowed thickly again, still tasting him. "I followed you."

Tucking some hair back from her face, she looked at him again. "I'm sorry, I didn't know where else to go or what to do. I didn't want to kill someone." The statement was said with a wide haunted gaze.

That answered how she found the house, and him, but not how she got in that state or why she was in New York to begin with.

"How long has it been since you fed?" Granted, the younger ones were hungrier more often. "And why are you in New York?"

Shouldn't someone be...taking care of her or something, as she adjusted to this? Teaching her?

Elena looked up at him like she couldn't understand his anger in the moment and she frowned a little more. "I couldn't stay in Mystic Falls." She shook her head. "It was too dangerous for everyone." The constant hunger meant she was a danger to everyone she cared about. Caroline tried her best to help but there was so much going on. Then...

"Stefan left." She admitted, looking down again. "And I just needed to find Damon. I thought maybe he could help me." She wasn't thinking because Damon had confessed to loving her or because of all the memories that had come rushing back once she was changed, all the memories that he had made her forget by compelling them away. It was deeper than that, maybe because it was his blood in her that had changed her. It wasn't a Sire bond but there was still a connection.

A slightly stunned expression flitted across his face at the news Stefan had left. If it was accompanied by a bitter mocking of himself--of course, she'd come looking for Damon, not him--it didn't show.

"I haven't seen Damon," he said, still a bit more sharply than he intended. He waited a moment, pulled back into control. "Why would he leave you like this?"

The anger was back, this time at Stefan for daring to say he loved her, then abandoning her like that.

She hadn't known Elijah was in New York but there had been a certain sense of relief upon seeing him, even if things hadn't ended very well the last time they saw each other. They had both lost someone close to them. Still, seeing him had made her forget about looking for Damon which was why she was on his doorstep and not someone else's.

"It's fine. Coming to you was better." Especially since she didn't think Damon actually wanted to see her.

"He thought I would be fine." She replied softly then, shrugging a bit as she started to her feet, feeling stronger now.

He helped her up, instinctively, still looking her over critically. Reaching for her hand was also instinct, but he led her back through the house--all polished hardwood and mahogany, with elegant furniture--to the kitchen. Letting go, he moved to the fridge and got out a blood bag, holding it out in silent offering, while getting another for himself.

"He's an idiot, clearly," he said sharply. "Both of them. They should have remembered what it was like, made certain you were all right."

She wanted to agree, to admit that she felt abandoned and hurt, but the combination of guilt and compassion wouldn't let her at the moment. Guilt that she had pretty much chased Damon away by not giving him what he wanted and...she just couldn't think about Stefan right now. It hurt that he had left her again and it hurt worse that he had no good reason this time. He hadn't been doing it to save his brother or anyone else. He just couldn't deal anymore and so he had gone.

Sitting down, she took the blood bag from him though she fidgeted with it for a minute instead of tearing it open to drink like she really wanted to.

Instead she focused on something else. "I didn't actually know you were here." She looked up at him. "Not till I saw you."

He didn't push, but he did go ahead and open his blood bag. She could be reticent--he was rather hungry after letting her feed. He didn't tear into it by any means, but he definitely was sipping pretty steadily.

He'd also put a careful distance between them again.

"When was that?" he asked, watching her again. "How long have you been here?"

"I only saw you this morning but I've been here for...a few days." She finally opened the blood bag so she could take little sips from the stem.

She paused to look up at him then. "I had blood bags but I ran out." And she hadn't known where to go to get more or how to get them. She was still nervous about compulsion.
