NDI and Gameinformer

Apr 21, 2007 10:38

Naughty Dog's game "Uncharted: Drake's Fortune" is featured in issue 168 of Gameinformer. There's lots of pictures, including some interesting things like examples of Drake's 1200+ 'unique animations' (Jak, you only had 200!). The article writer has nothing but praise for the game, so I kind of wonder how much ND payed him off the magazine might be ( Read more... )

Good going, Mr. Wells. You know that now, we'll see "elfhood" used as an euphanism in all the bad lemons out there. It's what happens in Lord of the Rings fics...
(Joke, joke! XD It doesn't matter to me if he's an elf or human.)

Size Matters... I think they like messing with the ESRB, seriously XD

Personally, I don't care if you call them human or elves, so long as the writing's good. Terms like "elfhood" and "she-elf" and "he-elf" and whatnot drive me up the wall, though, and I write them as being elves.

Seriously. "She-elf"? What the frick?

I am very glad, though, that now when people get up in arms against me calling them elves, I can say I do have evidence enough to be allowed to use the term. (The people who go up in arms against me using the word "elf" tend to be the same ones that refuse to believe Seem is female, though, so I really doubt it'll help much in the end...)

Well, it's worth a try. ;D Good luck dealing with the morons... god knows we have people in this fandom *coughmakeroflightcough* who don't believe in evidence.

Oh, and she-elf comes from LotR I think... one of the Ringwraiths call Eowyn that, and the fangirls jumped on thinking it's a proper term. What they don't get is that the Ringwraith meant it as an INSULT.

Jak II was very detailed even if it didn't go very deep with its implied background: there was obviously some thought put into it. If NDI wanted them to be "elves", then they shouldn't have had the Baron call themselves "human" in the first place. What Evan Wells says will not change what currently exists in the games, but if, in a following game, they are called "elves", then that might change things. Like, introducing more wank fodder.

Oh, wait.

My reasoning for my stance regarding the humans-versus-elves thing is pretty simple--I, personally, use the term "elves" because in the TPL guide I have, it refers to Jak as being "a young elfin boy", and that's the first bit of Jak information I got. So I call them elves. Most of the time ( ... )

This is Game Informer...
Game Informer is just like Game Pro, useless.
I have Size Matters and I'm gonna say it: Daxter tops it.
I personally want to hit Impact Games for bringing back the *cough*Spyro3*cough* hoverboard races. ARGH!
There's a reason Insomniac nuked it after the very first Rachet and Clank! It's so damn slow!
It's alright for a PSP game, but they could have done it a lot better.
Now I'm just waiting for the FF Tactics PSP port (Yay!) and the PSP FF7 Zack game.
Please let there be a Loco Roco 2...

Ah, good to know. I only bought it cuz it had the article on the new game. Are there any gaming magazines you would recommend? (Not that I would buy more, I think. Just curious)

WHAT

"tied the series off neatly", my ass. That's like saying that "those kids who clean up their room by shoving everything into the closet, have to throw their entire weight on the door to squeeeeeeze it shut, and thereafter must refrain from making any sudden movements or loud noises unless they want the crap inside spray out all over the place" is an adequate cleaning method.

And I guess the KG and the Baron are totally different races from the rest of Haven City then. Jak/Ashelin is yet another interspecies pairing for the fandom looppllolo.

zomgiggle! Such scandalous inter-species situations!

...does that mean Torn is a KG, too? Or did he get a species reversal when he deserted them?

badjakfics April 21 2007, 22:42:51 UTC
Scandalous, indeed!

I think Torn must have been one of those "elves" who were impressed into the service of that brutal, nasty "humans"! But he must have been only enduring the humiliation (wow that sounds wrong) because once he got enough experience he went back to his REAL people! NDI just never released this information because of the racially-charged hot issues that are affecting our society today. They tread pretty lightly on delicate issues, you see. JUST LIKE Legolas (the classic!) on top of his five-foot-high snow drifts.

Torn: he's like Nurhaci, in a way.

Huh...and here I thought Jak was a human/elf hybrid...cause everything else in the game is a hybrid...why not them?

Bwaha, the middle ground is good too. XD Maybe most of the problems stem from finding a convenient way to name them.
