ACK! Housing market sucks...

We received our first offer on our house. Because of all the media hype about how horrible the housing market is, the people thought they could lowball us. What they don't realize is that we have been doing ok for the last several months paying 2 mortgages (would be nice to have just one, but we can remain status quo for a while w/o there being ( Read more... )

YOU buy a home insurance policy? How does that work?

Actually, I think I called it the wrong thing. When you buy a home, you have the chance to buy a Limited Home Warrrenty. It's basically an insurance policy in case something happens with the house during the first year that the buyer is in the house. Many sellers often times offer this to give piece of mind when someone buys a house. As a buyer, you can buy one on your own (the selling agent on our Tampa home was trying to get us to buy one for about $500 when we explained we were worried about certain things and the house was being sold "As Is"). Sometimes buyers will request that the seller buy the Home Warrenty for the house, which is what happened here. The issue is, there's so many clauses to the Warrenty that I've been told by many real estate agents that they're not worth the paper that they're written on (and my research on the net indicated this as well when the seller told us to buy one). But, not everyone realizes this and thus buyers will still ask for one. So, if it makes them feel better about buying the house, ( ... )
