I'm going to try hard to suspend belief to watch this show again. That's difficult for me but I'm working on it. The stuff that drives me crazy is the sloppy police work where they step all over the frigging crime scene! However, I enjoyed the episode. It was nice to see the ohana back together. I'm hoping Jerry and Lou don't take too much time away from the core 4 but I don't mind them being on the show - yet. Lou was kind of barking orders at people. I hope they aren't positioning him as Steve's second in command now.
I got the feeling the season 1 flashbacks were kind of a suggestion that this season will be going back to what made the show so terrific in the first. I hope so anyway.
This show's weak point has always been the plotting--bad police procedure, cases that basically solve themselves after a few taps of the computer keyboard, illogical motivations behind the crimes, etc., etc. At least the show used to regularly have fantastic character moments to keep me going through the ridiculous plot points.

I watched last night for the first time in forever and was shocked at how...off the wall they have gotten (they being the writing team). If the goal was to inspire terror and empty the streets, the first drone attack doesn't make sense being in a remote location. Second, if the plot was to misdirect so they could smuggle a man out, you'd think they'd find a more secluded airstrip, right? Like you say, you have to be able to suspend disbelief and this was in the silly range. It's a shame because the characters are so good and they've got great potential but the writing team needs to have their wrists slapped, repeatedly.
And the thigh gunshot wound -- yeah, should not have been running after a suspect if it was so severe he needed to use his belt as a tourniquet. *sigh*
I still love Steve and Danno, just, gawd...fire the writing team yesterday and fix the show or they're going to get cancelled. :(
The plots on this show have never made much sense, but at least they were less over the top. I've only ever watched this show for the characters, so it's good to see the writers putting some effort back into writing character moments again. For a long time this show has been about Super Steve and those other people who sometimes share screen time with him.
Thing is, I like Grover and Jerry ... in doses. I have yet to be convinced either need to be in it full time, especially Jerry. Honestly, their source of info is now a conspiracy-theory nut who is apparently a mad genius? Puh-lease.
I feel like people will throw tomatoes at me if I say I think Chi overacts and I find it distracting. But I do.
Ah, yes. Kono/Adam. I don't even like how her tone changes around him. She sounded almost baby-voiced at the beginning with him. No. That ... no. I appreciate that she has love in her life, but I never quite understood how they got together and how they stayed together. Yep, pretty sure the hamfisted "I want us to be safe" convo means one thing: Adam's toast.
To me, Grover would work better as a recurring character like Duke, and Jerry should show up no more than twice a season.

No tomatoes from me, but I don't feel like he's overacting. I do feel like he can't pull off the action scenes, and that's a problem for an action-adventure show.
when the show opened on a Mr. and Mrs. smith moment with Danny and Steve, I was like yes! here we go! and then two people got killed on a hiking trail with a military drone and I was like, there we went. Because a drone takes out two people, and while the military won't give Steve answers, they don't get involved at all? Really

I couldn't believe Steve didn't have one single contact in the military who was willing to help him out. I will roll my eyes so hard if Steve has to go to Jerry for his classified intel from now on.
This is a woman who punched out a guy for riding her wave, and she gets next to Adam and goes kitten soft, I am so confused by this.
You mean it isn't every woman's dream to be kept like a hothouse flower?
All so you could land a private plane in the middle of a street to pick up some dude the CIA hadn't been able to locate in over a month?
There's a reason I never watch this show for the plot.
I was hoping that by doing the flashbacks that was a way to let the fans know they were going to go back to the writing that made this show so great in the first place.
You and me both.
And show of hands of people who thought that eventually, that B.S. with matty would eventually show up again to bite Danny in the ass?I

I finally got around to watching this episode. I hope you're feeling better!
Was I the only person who kept thinking about the tsunami episode? Hmm, the bad guy is going to great lengths to get everyone out of the way. I'm sure there's no ulterior motive here!
Adam is definitely a dead man. Getting that and every other subplot for the season spelled out in the last 5-10 minutes was annoying. The writers seriously need to work on their pacing.
Sorry I'm kindof grumpy in my episode feedback. I'm still waiting for everything to hit me like a ton of bricks. It will probably happen after I go back to work tomorrow.
Thanks! But nope, still sick. And even though I took 3 sick days, I still seem to have given it to the whole department.

I wasn't, but then I try never to think about the tsunami episode. Because it was awful. ;-)

It's not uncommon for it all to hit at some random future time while being triggered by something you'd least expect. My parents' divorce hit me two months later in the middle of history class for no apparent reason. When my grandmother died, I was inexplicably set off by Far Side cartoons. Grief has its own wacky timetable.

They all looked amazingly gorgeous, of course.
