H50 Ep: Ma Lalo O Ka 'Ili

Mar 14, 2014 21:53

Wow, we've barely stopped talking about last week's ep and it's time for a new one already. Fortunately this week's ep was considerably less rage-inducing.

I think they're counting on us to be grateful for any Danny screentime to think about how he, y'know, is a detective with a job and stuff that they used to show him be really good at.

And I will say that I am not a Jerry fan, for the reason you highlighted and for the fact that he's really not needed as a cast member. It seems to be Steve's MO to talk to people who are less familiar to him than, y'know, established friends. Eh.

I could see Jerry being a recurring guest star, but I just can't imagine what they could possibly find for him to do that would justify him being main cast.

And TPTB can't seem to manage the characters they already have. I don't see how they're going to shoehorn in one more.

Agreed, though I have to say while I had the same quibble initially with Danny about the ditching the case to go home, he did say he called his mum like 30 times and didn't get an answer, so I think it's save to say he was actually worried. And since he then was totally with Steve at the showdown, I'm just mentally putting down Daddy!Williams and Grace as the little elves who did all the decorating.

Apart from that thing with Jerry and Steve that I concur should have included a few people that are more familiar with the Steve!issue (although I found the first scene with the awkward breakfast!Goodbye! It'sME, we're breaking up, but staying friends totally adorable) but, eheee, i'm actually ready to wave that for all the other positive things that happened in that episode.

Your last question though, is really the crux of the matter. So why?

I'm sure he was worried, but it's not like she has a heart condition or there was a volcano erupting in the neighborhood where it was necessary to do a well-being check.

I found it more creepy than adorable, although Show definitely presented it as comic relief. Between the paranoid conspiracy theorizing, inappropriate sexual comments to Catherine, and the clinginess to Steve, I would not be at all surprised if Jerry turned into a stalker at some point in his life.

This was definitely a better episode, but I wonder how long it will be before Steve hops a plane for Cambodia. He's gone haring off with far less provocation. Anybody want to lay bets on whether he takes Jerry along?

No. Just...no. If he takes Jerry, Show and I may need to have an earnest conversation about where we see our relationship going.

"I guess the really mind-boggling thing is if Show can still produce episodes like this, why haven't they been all along?"

That is the big mystery, isn't it?

As usual you touch on a couple of things I didn't even really think about - you're so right about Danny and everyone else in his life. I haven't looked at it that way 'til now, but damn. Even Mom.

I feel like once upon a time there was a scene where Steve and Chin are discussing Champ box stuff, or did I dream that? But you're right, they've certainly never shown us any kind of team brainstorming session about it. Though I'm sure if asked, PLenkov would insist we should have known that happened off screen. *rolls eyes*

Another week til the next new ep...I'm trying to decide if the long break is helping my annoyance with Show or not.

Steve has had discussions about the Champ box with the whole team and Mary, but it's always been in circumstances where it unavoidably involved them, never just a general brainstorming session with his closest friends who also happen to have investigative skills that might help him.

Ah, okay...in that context you're absolutely right - that has never happened that way and it certainly should have. So if Steve's being that secretive even with his closest friends, it makes no sense for him to suddenly confide in Jerry.
