I Did Stuff!

Goodness, I actually went out and did something for once and I totally forgot to post about it.

Last Sunday, John Scalzi made an appearance at my library to support his new book, Redshirts. Scalzi didn't do a reading from Redshirts on the theory that we're all capable of reading ourselves and nothing would be gained by him reading it to us, so ( Read more... )

Okay, I've been sitting here trying to figure out why the name John Scalzi sounds familiar, and finally, it dawned on me. Years ago, when I was fairly new to the Interwebs, AOL made a rather ill-advised attempt to host a blogging site, and Scalzi worked for them, blogging and advising/troubleshooting for users. I even exchanged a couple emails with him on the subject. I believe his first book was just published at the time. I always meant to read it. Still haven't gotten to it. :P

The first I ever heard of him was when he wound up having to do damage control on the Web every time Joe Mallozzi put his foot in his mouth when discussing Stargate Universe.

John Scalzi is one of my favorite writers. It was a really hard choice between birthday gaming or heading over to your library for that. (Especially when one of my gifts from Fran turned out to be Redshirts!)

John and I are also in each other's support group for those with partners who give them That Look.

You should have come! I could've given you the tour, introduced you to some coworkers, and shown you my fandom shrine cubicle.
