Day 15: Favourite Canon Ship
Too easy :) I am and always have been a die hard Spuffy fangirl. I could write reams about why I love their love, but it's kind of all been said before, so I'm going to try to keep it short.
I love the progression of their relationship, from arch nemeses to lovers, and how organically it happened, bumps in the road and all. I love that they genuinely have seen the best and worst of each other, because it gives an informed acceptance to their feelings for each other, a depth that is very rare in fictional romances. I love the way they can bring each other down so very hard, or hold each other up to the light, and that both abilities stem from that deep understanding of each other. I love how hot they are together, even when they hate each other, how their passion and chemistry just zings, and when they're together, ye gads, I could watch them making out and ripping each other's clothes off all day. I love how the things they have in common are such hot button issues for Buffy (hunting, fighting, going all out for love), and coming to accept it allows her to grow as a person. I love that Spike was inspired by his love to be good, or at least do good. And even though it never quite panned out that way in canon, I love the potential there, both in AU fanfic and in the post-series era. I love that, in a similar way, their differences are almost entirely complimentary. I love their humour, and their hang ups, and their difficult history, and their rocky future, and the tension that will never truly be gone from a slayer/vampire relationship. I love the arc, and the pain, and the potential for a happy ending that I still firmly believe in, and the way that two incredibly complex characters fit together so well their relationship practically gained sentience and wrote itself!
