Are we running low?!

A couple of weeks ago, I bought a bag of stones to use in the bottoms of flower pots. They are just common stones. It didn't even cross my mind to see where they came from; one figures that bloody stones that aren't polished, just dredged up from a stream somewhere, washed, and packaged, are available everywhere in the world, including our sizable ( Read more... )

I noticed the same thing when I went to buy a rock for burnishing the bottoms of my pots. I had almost the EXACT same reaction!

I opted not to buy the rocks...but when I looked at glass pebbles, they too are made in China. So I decided to keep using an old spoon instead. :P

There's probably some environmental rule about not being able to take stones (or anything) from riverbeds in the US, especially for a commercial purpose. Something about upsetting the balance and flow of nature's course or something like that.

Meanwhile, we all know that China genuinely does not give a rat's ass about the environment. If they can pull it out of the ground, they'll sell it.
