Date: February 1, 2011 Characters: Ariel, Carrie Location: The Mane Attraction Status: Semi-Public Summary: Ariel and one other runs the salon on the slow, gloomy weathered day. Completion: Complete
River had let her out from work earlier than she had expected, and even the people around her freaking out about the weather didn't mar her cheery high from the bakery's grand opening. She wasn't ready to go home just yet, and since it wasn't the end of the day yet, the salon someone had recommended to her might still be open.
Carrie turned on her GPS, and carefully navigated her way through the streets - she laughed a little at the drivers clearly flummoxed by the strange white sky-stuff - until she'd gotten to The Mane Attraction in decent enough time, all things considered. She pulled her hat a little further down on her head, and scampered into the warm-looking building.
Ariel put down the magazine she'd picked up a few minutes ago to relieve the boredom. The only other girl there had ducked back into the little coffee/lunch/break room, leaving Ariel to entertain herself. Normally this wasn't much of a problem, but her fingers were stiff today and so the scarf she was crocheting was slow going.
A customer--oh good. Something to do, someone to talk to. She smiled brightly at the other woman in welcome.
"Hi! Welcome to the Mane Attraction. What can I do for you today?" she asked.
Carrie slid the hat off, then her gloves, smoothed her hair down a bit, and tilted her head as she looked at the woman greeting her. She smiled in return. "I was looking to see if I could get a quick trim: just a few inches off, maybe a little layering. Sorry it's nothing more involved." Stuffing hat and gloves in her coat pocket, she began undoing her coat while she gave the place a look-over. Hmmm. Certainly a lot more welcoming than the snooty D.C. salon her mother and grandmother frequented. She slid her eyes back to the petite woman, hoping the weather didn't make her look like too much of a mess.
"Sounds like a plan," Ariel said. "Hey, a day like this, a trim and layering is greatly interesting, trust me. You see how many people wanted to brave the weather today," she said goodnaturedly, gesturing to the clean but rather empty shop.
"Come on in, you can set your things right over here," she said, gesturing to an empty waiting chair. "I'm Ariel, and I'll take care of you. And since you're the only one right now, you can even get the radio station changed if you want," she offered while gesturing the woman to the first empty salon chair.
