It was fucking freezing. The ice was terrible, and Ty hadn't exactly planned on staying the night at Alex's when he'd left yesterday morning, so he'd had to borrow a scarf and gloves from Alex. He'd had a hat in his car, at least, and his coat was nice and heavy. Not warm enough for the cutting wind that seemed to turn his bones to ice, but it was the warmest coat anyone could have

Derrick let out a little sigh of relief. Ty was treating him just as always, wasn't acting awkward at all. Maybe he was wrong.

"Hey, shutterbug." He laughed, shaking his head. "Too cold. And the kids were pretty antsy today because of it. Nobody wanted to go outside but nobody wanted to be inside either."

Smiling, he reached across the table, grabbing Ty's hand and squeezing fondly before letting go and carefully picking up his coffee. "How are you doing?"

"I wish I hadn't had to get out of bed," Ty said. "It's so cold that I'd have been happy just burrowing under the covers and hibernating until the weekend. This shit is supposed to last until Saturday, they're saying."

Ty felt anxious when Derrick squeezed his hand. It was something friends would do, but he didn't think Derrick meant it that way. And that just made him feel guilty, even if he hadn't really done anything wrong. "How's the center? Are you going to like it there?"

"I'm doing well," he added. "I actually got an offer yesterday to do a gallery show of my photos in March at this new place opening on Magnolia. It's still kinda hard to believe, but Alex gave me the push I needed to actually show the owner my stuff."

"Oh, your heating issue all fixed?" Derrick paused, might as well just ask. He was sure it was what had happened any ways. "Or did you bunk at Alex's? I don't want you freezing, Ty. Like you too much for that to happen." He grinned. There, that sounded mature enough.

"The center's amazing. The staff that's already there is wonderful and they're really wanting to help these kids. It's going to be perfect for me - I can see myself losing hours there. In fact, I think I'm going to need to talk to Alex again. Ran the numbers and the hours in the day, and I think I can manage without working at the Abbey."

"Ty!! That's fantastic!" Of course Alex had pushed you into it, Derrick thought. Alex loves you right back and I'm going to be the one on the outside of this. "You'll have to let me know when it opens."
