Date: January 31, 2011 Characters: Ava Byrne, Rori Milburn Location: A park in Ft Worth Status: Semi-Private Summary: Ava meets Rori while getting used to her new dog. Completion: Complete
Rori had spent the entire morning with the horses, since Cody had told her that the weather was supposed to turn nasty this week. Knowing her, she'd probably sleep at the barn just in case something were to happen, but she'd wanted to spend that time with them. And since the weather was still okay, she'd decided to spend as much of her day as possible out doors

Ava was on her feet and rushing over in an instant, slinging her bag over her shoulder as she moved, a sheepish smile already curving her lips. Wilbur had chosen a tall, friendly-looking woman this time. He seemed to be choosing more friendly targets, at least. Ava stopped and watched her scruff him behind the ears and then do some natural-looking thing with her hand that made him follow it and put his legs on the ground again.
Huh.
Ava blinked and looked up at her, breathing out a laugh. "Yeah, he's ... he's Wilbur," she said. "Thanks so much; I might've been running who knows how far to catch him. I hope he wasn't bothering you, he's been trying to meet new people all afternoon."
Rori blinked and looked down at the other woman. Wow, she so was not used to being the tallest person in a conversation. For all she was relatively tall, she spent so much time surrounded by very tall men in hats and boots that made them taller that it was an almost disconcerting shift in dynamic.
Especially when the shortness was accompanied by pretty, fluffy hair.

"No worries. I love dogs, at least the friendly ones like Wilbur here," she said. "Though now, you should listen to your mother, Wilbur," she scolded the dog, shaking a finger at him. "No running away. Though I'm sure he came to me because I still have horse all over me." And perhaps a bit of barn cat. She hadn't bothered changing out of her jeans and cowboy boots, though she'd changed into a shirt that didn't have horse hair and slobber all over it so people wouldn't look at her like a crazy person.
Ava tilted her head, much like Wilbur appeared to be doing at the moment while beating his short tail against the grass. "How is it he's listening to you? I should try that finger shake thing," she said, and wagged her index finger in Wilbur's general direction. She laughed and straightened her denim jacket self-consciously; she'd thrown it on over her cotton dress to take Wilbur to the vet earlier. As she'd taken the rest of the day off, she'd wanted to take advantage of the chance to let him play around outside of her apartment. "I'm new to this. Um. A new parent, I guess
