Ezra was a terrible poker player, always had been, and probably always would be. He had accepted the invite to poker night because he was social and kind of wanted to see if he and Damien could be friends. Being he was of the 'more the merrier' mind set, he had invited both Ariel and Miranda, the latter of which was driving separately. Ezra had offered to drive, but Miranda had assured him she would prefer to come separately. So after figuring that out, Ezra had focused on figuring out carpooling plans with Ariel, and it had been decided he'd pick her up from her place and they'd drive over to Damien's together ( ... )

Ariel had been surprised but pleased at the invitation to come out to this poker night with Ezra. She liked that he thought to include her in something like this, and that he even offered to carpool with her to make things easier. It almost felt like a date--last time she'd been out when someone else had driven had been with Cliff--but it wasn't, which was actually kind of relaxing in a way. That didn't mean she still didn't dress nice, as she always did to go out with anyone, be it date or casual. Primping had been trained into her long ago.

"I am, actually, pretty good at poker," she said reassuringly, slipping out of the car and shutting the door, patting the pretty thing absently. "At least, I used to be, it's been over a year since I've played. But I'd gladly help you win your money back," she said, grinning up at him as she came alongside him.

As Ariel got out of the car Ezra manage to surprise himself with the way he studied her, while he had just worn his usual t-shirt and jeans, it would seem Ariel had gone a little further, still casual and yet she looked very pretty as well, which was another thought to be studied for another day ( ... )

Her pair of jeans was new, the first pair of brand new ones she'd had in years, dark blue and straight legged. It clung to her hips just a little, but not so tight that she was actually uncomfortable. She'd also bought a new sweater, and she couldn't resist wearing both tonight. Her nails and her lipstick matched everything and she'd done her hair simply. Her heeled boots she'd had for a couple of years, but they still looked new ( ... )

Gigi traded shifts at the shop so she could have the night off. Not that she was looking to be social, but Soli had invited her and she’d be a pretty pathetic friend if she said no. It also gave her a good excuse to avoid Miah some more, because yeah, she was still being a chicken about talking to him. She was pretty sure that he hadn’t caught on yet, or if he had, he wasn’t pressing her to find out why. Either way, she'd take any excuse to be away from the house ( ... )

Soli was insanely excited about tonight, this was the first time she and Damien were having people over, well, people besides Jasper that is. Sometime she was surprised that Damien's best friend came around at all, she had taken to harassing him a bit, only because it was so easy to make him blush. It still amused her sometimes that he and Damien were close, although they were both nice guys, even if Damien had a bit of a wild streak in him, it was that wild streak that she loved so much.

She was in the kitchen when she heard the door open and Gigi call out. "Menina, in here." Soli called, poking her head out of the kitchen so that Gigi would know where here was. Unlike when she and Damien would have Jasper and Abby over, Soli wasn't cooking tonight, which felt kind of odd because she had become accustom to cooking. "Could use a hand carrying this stuff out." She continued, motioning towards the few bowls of chips and such she had sitting on the counter ( ... )

Gigi raised an eyebrow when she stepped into the kitchen and caught what Soli was wearing. It was kind of casual, like ‘this is what I’d wear to bed’ casual. “You feeling okay?” She asked picking up one of the bowls that Soli said needed carrying out, “’Cause it looks like actually getting dressed was too much work for you.” She smirked, already feeling like spending the night at Damien and Soli’s playing poker was a better idea than staying home. At least she could throw up a front here, and the only one who’d even come close to figuring it out would probably be Soli.

“And if I’d know I could've worn whatever the hell I wanted I wouldn't have bothered changing out of my cutoffs and t-shirt.” She added as she carried the bowl out of the kitchen and set it down, saying ‘hey’ to Damien real quick as she passed him. “Are you even wearing a bra under that thing?” She asked Soli as she came back in and hopped up onto the counter, swinging her legs absently.

Soli caught her best friend's raised eyebrow and was simply waiting for whatever comment she might have that went along with that look, because that was Gigi's 'what in the hell' look. "I'm feeling fine." She replied with a wave of her hand. Rolling her eyes, Soli just shook her head. "Nobody said there was a dress code, Menina." Soli's tone was dry as she spoke. "And this is my apartment and I wanted to be comfortable." She was also hoping to distract Damien just a bit, but she didn't really think Gigi needed to know that part.

"You knew damn well you could have worn whatever you wanted, it's not like I would have cared." Soli remarked as she placed a hand on her hip and eyed Gigi. She continued to do a few things in the kitchen as Gigi took the bowl out and came back in. "Sim, I'm wearing a bra." She answered as she pulled the hem of her shirt up and flashed Gigi. "See." It wasn't out of line for Gigi to have asked, since really Soli would have been prone to not wear a bra. When she had been dressing earlier she had asked Damien's ( ... )

Miranda hadn’t expected Ezra’s invitation, but she appreciated it. He was the only person she was really friendly with in Fort Worth, and even if they didn’t seem to have much in common, he was easy to talk to. He had offered her a ride also, but she had politely declined, preferring to drive separate in case she wanted to leave earlier than he did, or if she felt out of place. This wasn’t college anymore, and she hadn’t done anything socially lately that wasn’t work related (Halloween barely counted, Audrey had practically taken her out against her will).

Thankfully the directions Ezra had given her were easy to follow, and she glanced at the text message once last time to make sure she had gotten the address correct. She didn’t know what Ezra drove; so she couldn’t even guess if any of the assembled vehicles were his, but she didn’t mind either if he hadn’t shown up yet. She made her way from the car to the apartment door quickly, smoothing her skirt and hair one last time before she knocked.

Jasper loved Abby and was really enjoying being a dad, but he was really looking forward to just taking a night to spend with friends and just be Jasper, something Neve had assured him was nothing to feel guilty about when he'd double checked with her that it was all right for Abby to stay the night. And Abby was so excited about spending more time with Bryn that it made it just a little easier to not feel guilty, but not completely ( ... )

Miranda couldn’t help the surprised expression she gave Jasper when he opened the door; she hadn’t expected to recognize anyone but Ezra, and she certainly hadn’t ever expected to see Jasper again after he changed the flat tire on her car. She was even more thrown when he remembered her name, though she remembered his, so it was possible he was just good with names and faces ( ... )

"You're welcome," Jasper responded automatically when she thanked him. He was very pleased by her reaction, by that amused little smile which had been what he'd been hoping for. He couldn't help the way his eyes moved over her, though he was respectful enough not to leer at her, and he was struck with how lovely she looked. He hadn't forgotten what she'd looked like, and he thought maybe she probably shouldn't have left such an impression on him, but she had, and he fought down the flush that threatened to rise as his eyes lingered on her smile.

"What can I say? I'm an honest man," he quipped with a grin. At her question, he shook his head slightly. "Nope, this is Damien and Soli's apartment, Damien being my best friend and ex-roommate," he explained. "So, you know Ezra, then?" he asked curiously as he motioned for her to go ahead of him further into the apartment.

It had been a good night, initial awkwardness at Ariel showing up with Ezra aside. The personalities had been about as varied as you could get, but he was relieved that there hadn't been any real cattiness due to the varied personalities. He'd even picked up on some very friendly vibes between some of his guests, and there was no doubt in his mind that he was going to enjoy giving Jasper a hard time about how he'd been acting around Miranda. It might not have been obvious to anyone else, but after living with the guy for two years, Damien really thought he knew Jasper well enough to tell when he liked a girl, and it was obvious to him that Jasper liked Miranda. The question was whether or not he'd do anything about it. He had hope that Jasper might, considering the way he'd offered to walk out with Miranda at the end of the night ( ... )

The night had been long, but fun. Soli had enjoyed playing hostess, and although the group had been eclectic, everyone had seemed to get along just fine. baring the occasional look or comments made between Ezra and Gigi. How those two managed to be in a band together she would never understand, though Soli thought on some level they were friends, just so different they didn't understand how the other worked.

"Sim, it was." Soli agreed as she let Damien pull her down onto the couch next to him. Promptly she wedged herself against his side and threw her legs across his lap. It didn't matter to her that she hadn't won, or that she hadn't managed to get them to agree to play strip poker, maybe another time. "I agree, we really should." She had always enjoyed hosting parties, ad she found it was that much better when you were hosting one from your own home."Can we clean up in the morning, Hermoso?." Soli asked, peering up at him with big brown eyes.

Damien dropped one hand to Soli's legs, rubbing over them lightly, always happy to have her close like this. He also loved that she was just as social as he was and enjoyed having people over, and that she didn't need it all of the time, that she could still be happy with just the two of them. He laughed at her question, amused that she even felt the need to ask. "Definitely. Feeling way too relaxed to even think about it right now, anyway," he admitted with a little smirk. And he was just a little buzzed. He'd probably straighten up before opening up the store in the morning, that responsibility being the reason he hadn't drank enough to get more than buzzed ( ... )

Soli would have never thought that even just moments like this, cuddling on the couch, would be ones she would enjoy so much. She had never been that girl that would cuddle after sex, or cuddle in general. With Damien it was obviously different, had been different since day one almost. She scrunched up her nose when he laughed, and could only figure that it was because she'd actually asked if they could put off cleaning the apartment. "Too relaxed, do I need to worry about you passing out on me?" Sh teased, aware that Damien really hadn't drank enough to pass out, though she was certain he'd had more to drink than she had ( ... )
