Honestly, Shosh didn't know who needed storytime at the library more, Sloane or her? It was a nice break from the stress of the last handful of days. Although She had to pause and wonder if maybe it was just getting a bit of laugh out of how animated Luke was while reading to the kids that brightened her mood a bit. She wouldn't tease him about it, after all it was part of his job, well, okay - maybe she wouldn't tease him that badly about it ( ... )

Shosh figured a normal person would have felt guilty for asking a question like that, but she wasn't exactly the type to think on things like that too long. "Yeah well, sometimes kids appear before you're ready to have them." She replied honestly. "And if a kid can survive my style of parenting I'm sure you and Isaac would do just fine." Both were fairly good guys in her opinion, but than again she didn't know either of them well. "You know, might just be easier if you get it from Isaac, actually."

She wrinkled her nose. "Kind of got that feeling, he might believe in 'em after dealing with me." she answered. "Isaac could likely be the most interesting person anyone knows." Shosh just shrugged at the family comment. "Grew up with just me and my Dad and a set a grandparents down in Sonora. Anyone else around us were 'like family' but not actually kin." She kind of liked it that way as well, picking who she wanted to consider her family.

"True. I think it might be a bit difficult for the two of us to accidentally end up with one, though," Luke pointed out, his smile faint and bemused. "We're definitely focusing on raising Sauce right now before adding to the family. By adding to the family, in this case I mean adding more animals to it." He hoped Isaac wasn't serious about them having more just yet.

He nodded. "A large network, then. Mine's always been fairly small, but it's nice to have support, wherever you can find it."

"Hold up, you mean that can't happen?" Shosh teased, grinning brightly. "You could always end up with one dropped on the doorstep." She continued, though she was entirely kidding. Most people didn't just drop kids on doorsteps, or at least she didn't think that really happened much anymore. "Raising Sauce, you mean teaching him useful commands like sit and stay?" Shosh had found it amusing that the dog likely knew how to fetch, but not stay - or at least that was how Isaac had made it sound.

She shrugged. "To a point, really it's only about three people I really count as family. But I've got other people, rodeo people and ranchers who knew my dad. Small isn't bad, least you know exactly who you can count on"

Glancing in Sloane's direction, Shosh had to giggle just a bit when she noticed her little girl had a pile of books sitting on the floor, and an empty shelf in front of her. "Looks like my littie hellion has already started her reorganizing." She commented.

"A Harry Potter fan?" Luke asked, his smile widening. "Well, we'd be better than Vernon and Petunia, at any rate." He shrugged. "I try to drum the useful ones into him, but he seems to like the games Isaac teaches him better. We're working on a balance."

He nodded when she mentioned knowing who you could count on. To him at least, that was more reliable than expecting something from the people he really should've been able to count on.

Following Shosh's glance, Luke half-laughed, half-groaned, but mostly laughed. "Like clockwork," he agreed, nodding as he eyed the stack of books. He rubbed the back of his neck. "I think I'll add the Dewey Decimal System to our tutoring program. Never too early."

"Surprising I know, but yeah. Spent a lot of hours reading while on the road when I was younger." Shosh answered with a smirk. "You really would be. Can't see you two locking some kid under the stairs." She continued, nodding when talked about teaching useful tricks. "The useful ones are boring, so of course he'd like Isaac's better. Everything in life requires a bit of balance, be it raising a kid or a dog, or something else entirely ( ... )

"I like a challenge. Well, perhaps when she's five," he allowed, chuckling despite himself as they joined Shosh's little girl. He hung back slightly, not wanting to interfere with the parenting and such, but when Sloane pointed out the unscathed books to him, he crouched so he was on her level.

"Very impressive show of restraint," he said, keeping his face solemn before returning her grin. "Er, would you like me to check those out for you?"

"Well Sloane's a challenge, that's for sure." she replied with a laugh. Shosh began gathering up the books and motioned for Sloane to help her, the four year old obliged even if she prefer seeing all the covers of the books, which she couldn't do if they were all stacked up.

Sloane grinned at Luke as he knelt down to her level. "Show of restraint?" the little girl asked, furrowing her brow and trying to figure out what that meant. "You can do that?"

"Mm-hm." Luke nodded briskly. "It means not doing something even when you really want to do it," he said. It was hard not to give answers when confronted with large...kid eyes. "Sometimes we can't do what we want to do because it's wrong, or a bad time. Or because it gives our moms headaches. So we show restraint."

Sloane listened intently to what Luke had to say, her mouth held open in and 'oh' as she thought she began to understand what he meant. "Takin' the books off the shelf gave Mama headaches?" She finally asked, blinking and glancing at her Mama.

Unable to control her laughter, Shosh knew she should step in and save Luke from trying to explain it all over again, but part of her was interested to see how he might handle quizzical four year old questions.

"Well, I don't know." Luke glanced at Shosh and then back at Sloane. "Maybe you should ask her."

He ducked his head. It was a bit of a cop-out, perhaps, but he also figured he shouldn't be speaking for the child's mother, so maybe it was the safest route as well.

Sloane glanced at her Mama when Luke did, her eyes wide as she asked. "Mama?" The little girl's tone was concerned. "Did I give you headaches?"

Shaking her head, Shosh laughed. "No Peanut, I'm fine." She assured her, gathering up a few of the books before standing up again. "But I think we should check these out and let Luke get back to work."

"Back to work?" Sloane scrunched up her face as she looked at Luke. "Are you goin' read some more?"

Luke nodded, laughing as he stood. "Yeah, back to work," he confirmed. "I have to show restraint too." He smiled when she asked him if he was going to read some more.

"Not today, but another day. If your mom says it's okay, you could come back sometime and I'll read your favorite," he said as he put the rest of the books back and looked at Shosh. "Follow me, I'll just check those out for you before I get back."

Sloane let out a heavy sigh like only a four year old could. She didn't argue Luke going back to work, having heard comments along the same lines from her own Mama and Graham before.

"Really?" The four year old asked excitedly, glancing her Mama. "Can we come back?"

Shosh laughed. "Yes, we can come back. But right now we have to let Luke get back to work, and stop being a thorn in his side." She scooped Sloane up from the floor and followed Luke as he went to check the books out for Sloane. "You can rearrange shelves another day, Peanut."
