The kids always seemed to get a kick out of The Very Hungry Caterpillar. And it was a quick read, even out loud, so it was always on hand for them to read to the younger reading groups, the ones who had harried parents and siblings along, which usually meant they had limited time before needing to get to this thing or that part of their day.
Luke had been surprised to see Shosh there this time, and had tried not to glance her way while he'd turned the pages and done the voices. She might be laughing at him or she might not, but he didn't want to risk it, particularly not when he got to the tummyache part where he tended to groan exaggeratedly and clutch his stomach for the kids' benefit.
It was a part of his repertoire, as it were, he couldn't leave it out even if he thought Isaac might actually be better at this sort of thing. He figured at some point Iz would make good on his promise to come by one day armed with popsicle sticks and craft ideas.
When he was finished and the kids started dispersing with their parents, Luke closed the book and put it on the table with the others, waving back a little at the kids who waved at him as they left. They were easy to deal with, relative to a lot of the older library patrons, though he was usually more comfortable at work no matter who he was talking to.
He'd be due back at the reference desk soon enough, but he walked over to Shosh, figuring he should probably greet her. It was possible she might not tease him with Sloane there anyway. Although, no doubt she was no stranger to storytime herself.
"Hey Shoshana," he said as he approached her, completely casual, then smiled at the little girl. "Hello, Sloane."
