Date: September 24, 2011 Characters: Luke Rafferty, Darcy Teller Location: Blossoms Florist and Greenhouse Status: Semi-Public Summary: Luke goes looking for a low-maintenance plant. Completion: Complete
Saturday was a great day to work. There was something about the weekend that kept the customers coming in, and it made for a nice break from the quieter weekdays. Darcy loved having time to focus on the arrangements that people ordered and helping clients figure out flowers for their events, but she considered it a nice break when the door was chiming every little bit. Dalton thought she was crazy, but he'd become grumpy in his old age, nevermind the fact that he was technically younger than her, and he couldn't handle a stream of customers the way she could
( ... )
Luke hadn't seen anyone at first, and hadn't expected the woman to pop out from behind a display. Well, perhaps she hadn't exactly popped out but, well...he hadn't expected her. He rubbed at the back of his neck.
"Oh--hullo." He looked around the shop, and back at her. "I was wondering if you only did flowers? I think they might be a bit high maintenance for what I'm looking for. I was thinking more like a plant." He gestured vaguely, not sure what sort of plant he was even looking for. "Like a house...plant. I'm sorry, I'm not being helpful."
"Not just flowers." Darcy listened and nodded. "Is it a gift for someone? Or is it for yourself? You want low maintenance, something that doesn't need a lot of attention. Will there be someone to water it whenever necessary? Do you want a flowering plant or a simple green plant?"
She smiled. "This part of the shop is mostly cut flowers and bouquets. We have another part of the store through there," she said, motioning to the doorway a little distance away. Pops had bought the store next door when she was a kid in order to expand the shop, and they'd continued separating the flowers and coolers from the plants and work area because it made sense.
"We'll go on through. Cora can keep an eye on this part of the shop while we try to find the right plant for you." Darcy grinned and led the way. "I'm Darcy, by the way. If you see something you like, just point it out."
"Exactly." Luke nodded, pleased, as she caught on that he'd need low maintenance. She seemed to know what she was doing, which was good, because he hadn't had a chance to read up. "Well, for me really, or my roommate and I, and oh, I'll be the one watering it, I imagine." He looked up at her with a wan expression. "When I'm home." He glanced around. "Simple and green to start, I suppose."
He tried to keep up with her, nodding and mentally cataloging as she gestured toward the area for plans and led her back. "Um, Luke," he offered quickly when she grinned at him, though perhaps it wasn't important for her to know his name since he was just a customer. He'd just felt like giving it. "That is, sure, I'll point it out."
