They had no plants, and it was strange. Luke figured that any normal house should have a plant or two. Not that he didn't love all the hand-tooled accents and knick-knacks that Isaac had made, the little touches that made the place theirs. But plants were something he'd never really had space for--not after he'd left Alabama, and certainly not where he'd grown up. For his first real house, one he was prouder of every day, it just seemed like one of those homey things they should have. And not the kind of plant Isaac liked to smoke.
He wanted something low-maintenance, though--he had enough to keep on top of with Sauce running around without dealing a finicky plant as well. A cactus, maybe.
The flower shop on Magnolia was convenient, though he'd never been inside. He hoped they sold more than flowers, but even if they didn't, at least he'd know. He opened the door, grateful for the air conditioning as he let it jingle shut behind him. He tugged on his collar and glanced down, frowning when he noted he still had a little ink on his fingers.
