Date: 18 August 2011 Characters: Max Stuart, Lupe Espinoza, Mattie Location: Oddball 42 Status: Semi-Public Summary: Covering for his bff sometimes meant good things/ Completion: Incomplete
Hands full between her phone and tucking a file back into her huge purse, Lupe held the door open with her shoulder as Mattie breezed into Oddball like he owned the place. It was their third trip back since he'd discovered the shop a few weeks ago: both because there was a new Ultimate Spiderman in print, and because Lupe was a pushover. She watched him head straight for the counter, noticing that the face behind it today was slightly unfamiliar.
"Where's the other guy?" Mattie asked him, shifting his weight from one foot to the other.
"I think that's his less-polite way of asking if your Spiderman expertise is as extensive as Jay's," Lupe explained, her expression a little apologetic even as she looked at him curiously.
Max had looked up when the door opened, and saw a kid and his mom come in. The kid clearly had an agenda. He glanced at her, then back to him. "Mr. Shaw's not feeling well. He'd tell you I don't know enough about Spiderman, but I can probably help you out if you're looking for the latest."
He glanced at mom again. "Name's Max." He came out from behind the counter and went to the rack this week's new releases. "Are you looking for something older, or is this week's release gonna do ya?" He handed the comic to the kid.
"I already have last week's,", Mattie pointed out. "I'm looking for Tuesday's." he shot his mother a quick glance and added, "please." And smiled.
Lupe lifted a brow and bit the inside of her cheek. "Such a gentleman," she murmured and looked up at the man again, appreciating that he'd introduced himself first. "Lupe. I wouldn't know one issue from another, but I've been here enough times I'm waiting to pick it up by osmosis."
"There you be." He gave a wry grin to his mom. "Nice to meet you, Lupe." He wondered if the kid would introduce himself, or dive headfirst into the issue like most his age did. "Comics aren't everyone's thing. But he's lucky you're indulging him." His parents rarely had.
"I was always more an X-Men kind of kid myself. Though I see the appeal of a lot of the stuff here." He glanced around. "Can I help you guys find anything else?"
