Date: April 27th, 2011 Characters: Alex Jameson, Tobias Whitehall Location: Tobias's home therapy practice Status: Private Summary: Alex needs to keep working his issues. Completion: Incomplete
Tobias had baked far too many cookies for him to safely leave in the house, so he piled a few onto a plate along with the usual water in the vain hope his patients would eat some.
The office was a bit of a mess from an impromptu spring cleaning. He bustled around putting away papers as he waited for Alex. He left the door open, catching the evening breeze.
Alex stood in the doorway. "Personal tornado?" He asked with a smile. "My office gets like that at the quarterly reporting to the bank. Fortunately that was before the move."
He came in, and took a seat, rubbing his hands on his pants.
"A bit, yes. Insurance records can be quite difficult." He folded away the worst of it, so no personal information could be seen and took his seat. "How does that go? Are you all settled in now?"
He took a sip of water and worked himself back into the right mindset. It'd been a distracting day of tracking down live human beings over the phone to unsnarl a particularly trying insurance issue.
Alex grimaced. "I bet. It took me a whole afternoon to get Ty on my insurance, thanks to the wierd laws about partnerships and 'alternative livestyles'." He shrugged. "We're in. Still decorating, trying to give the space our personality. Not my forte, but Ty's got a great eye for that sort of thing. And its an excuse to talk and spend time together figuring out what works."
He leaned back a little. "We're going to have a housewarming in a bit. At this rate, it might be June, but we're hoping sooner. We'll see." He smiled. Ty was throwing himself wholeheartedly into it all, and it was so easy to see a future where they were just... happy.
Alex took a deep shuddering breath. "And if not?" He couldn't hope. It was just too fucking scary. It all hinged on another person, and people just fucking let him down. All the time. He couldn't.
"If he doesn't understand? Then you keep explaining it to him. You bring him here and we'll talk about it together. He's not a monster, he's your lover. I'm fairly sure that he'll accept it and do his best to not to make it harder for you even if it takes a few conversations." He couldn't see the gentle man that Alex spoke about leaving someone over abuse they couldn't control.
Alex nodded, finally taking a tissue and blotting his face off before blowing his nose. "Okay. Okay." He repeated. "Alright. I'll try, then. I just..." He squeezed his eyes shut again. "I hate it. That it made me who I am today in some ways."
"It was a hateful thing." He agreed. "If it helps, I think you have become who you in spite of what happened, not because of it. You have a fundamental strength that has carried you through and now you have call on that reserve to take you those last few steps to safe shores."
