Alex took a deep shuddering breath. "And if not?" He couldn't hope. It was just too fucking scary. It all hinged on another person, and people just fucking let him down. All the time. He couldn't.

"If he doesn't understand? Then you keep explaining it to him. You bring him here and we'll talk about it together. He's not a monster, he's your lover. I'm fairly sure that he'll accept it and do his best to not to make it harder for you even if it takes a few conversations." He couldn't see the gentle man that Alex spoke about leaving someone over abuse they couldn't control.

Alex nodded, finally taking a tissue and blotting his face off before blowing his nose. "Okay. Okay." He repeated. "Alright. I'll try, then. I just..." He squeezed his eyes shut again. "I hate it. That it made me who I am today in some ways."

"It was a hateful thing." He agreed. "If it helps, I think you have become who you in spite of what happened, not because of it. You have a fundamental strength that has carried you through and now you have call on that reserve to take you those last few steps to safe shores."

Alex laughed a bit soundlessly. "Bit more optimistic than me, doc. But I'll take it. Finally got a shot at that golden ring, so..." He smiled a bit wobbly. "I'll take it."

"I know you will." He smiled a little. "Not tonight though. I think you should try and sleep tonight as best you can. A lot came up today and you'll need the rest to let you unconscious chew it over."

Alex nodded. "Yeah." He blinked down at the balled up tissue in his hand. He'd have to splash some water on his face. God willing, he'd beat Ty to bed, or at least, Ty wouldn't ask. Not yet. He'd wait for the safety of Sunday.

"If you need to, you can certainly use the bathroom." There was a little half bath next door the converted office that he'd had put in a few years ago. "You still have a few minutes left of your session and I won't rush you out if you want to stay a bit longer."

He didn't think they could possibly unearth another huge revelation, but he could understand a need to unwind a little.

Alex stood, feeling a bit weak all over. "Thanks. Think I might go, though. After I use the bathroom. Not sure I could survive any more than that." He gave a wry smile. "But thank you." He would dare to hope that this would help in the long run. If only a little.

"You're most welcome. Just down the hall. The door knob is a bit temperamental, just give it a good shake if it sticks." It was amazing sometimes how the mundane things could jar after this kind of session.
