Erick sat at his desk, reviewing his notes and updating his charts. It wasn't his favourite part of the job but he had clinic for the rest of the week and time now to get everything done. The great thing about kids was mostly when they got so very ill, they bounced back pretty quickly as well. The human body's ability to fix itself never ceased to amaze him.

Hearing a knock at the door, he lifted his head and blinked. What time was it? "Come in!" Erick called out.

Marisel heard Dr. Gardner echo from inside the office. She opened the door and smiled softly, "Dr. Gardner." Approaching the desk, she extended her hand, "Hi, I'm Marisel DeLuna. I'm a CNM up on L and D. I referred Isabel James to you a couple of weeks ago and I was just wondering how he's doing."

She smiled nervously, "I know she's your patient now but I just wanted to make sure she's doing okay. I know pertussis can be pretty serious in babies that young and her poor mother was already so stressed out to begin with." Marisel tucked her hair behind her ear. "I hope I'm not interrupting anything," she said, glancing down at his desk briefly.

Erick looked at the woman who had entered his office and introduced herself. It took a couple of seconds but he stood up and offered her a chair as he mentally put the pieces back together. "Oh yes, Baby Isabel!" He exclaimed as it all came together.

"Please forgive me Marisel, I've been doing charts all morning and the brain can get a little webbed up." Reaching for his stack of finished charts Erick rumbled through a couple before pulling out the one he was looking for and flipped it open.

"Baby James came in last Thursday for a check up and is breathing much better now. She's lucky to have had you catch it so early before it could have led to lung scarring."

She smiled and sat back in the chair comfortably. "Oh, no worries," Marisel said with a small laugh, "I'm trying to keep my patients straight right now. I have to women with the same last name in labor today." She rolled her eyes a bit, "You couldn't make these things up if you wanted to."

Marisel watched him as he read the file. When she'd been an RN, she'd made a point of knowing each of her patient's names and their stories. Now, she had far more than 4-6 patients that most RNs had and it'd gotten much harder. She understood when he had to double-check the file. "I'm just glad she's doing better," she said with a relieved smile. "I won't be seeing her mom again for another 3 months or so, so I really appreciate it."

She chuckled after a moment, "I don't how I've worked here for almost a year and hadn't met you! Logically, the patients are going to go from me to you anyway." Marisel grinned, "It's great to finally meet you though, Dr. Gardner."
