The phone call earlier had been surprising. Chris wasn't sure why Kudzu had wanted to make lunch, but he didn't go into work until the late afternoon on Saturdays anymore, so he'd agreed. Besides, he considered Kudzu a friend, someone who reminded him of home and was more tolerable than most people he met.

He was also rather curious about what Kudzu would be making for lunch, since Chris didn't often eat food that he didn't prepare these days. That was mostly due to the fact that he spent most of his time at work, so he didn't have time to get out much and eat in restaurants, and he didn't have friends to visit for shared meals.

When he heard the knock on the front door, he went to answer it. "Good afternoon, Kudzu. Come in."

"Hey, Chris." He toed the basket. "It...uh... looks like you got a delivery or something."

He balanced his bags. "Everything should still be warm, I think, including the bread. Where do you want me to set down?"

Chris looked down and frowned. This time, his dishes had been returned along with a sketch of the duplex. He leaned over to pick up the basket. "My neighbors," he said simply.

"You can put everything on the table or the kitchen counter. Either one is free." Chris shut the door behind Kudzu and took the storage containers into the kitchen so he could wash them later. They were always returned clean, of course, but he liked to wash his own dishes whenever possible.

"Huh. Ok." He headed inside putting the fixings down on the table.

"Want to make your own or should I put it together?" He lined up the meat, pickles and bread. "Auntie Rosie was always firm about doin' it herself, but she was kinda bossy in the kitchen."

"Your Auntie Rose and I share that trait," Chris deadpanned, lips twitching slightly as he looked over everything that Kudzu had brought. It smelled good, and he hadn't had a Po-boy in awhile. "I can put my own together. Would you like water or juice to drink?"

Chris got their drinks and plates out of the cabinet. Handing one to Kudzu, he nodded at the food. "This was an unexpected surprise. It looks good."

"That's about all you share." He said with a slight smile. "She's bout crazy big in just bout every direction and spends most of her time laughing, stirring somethin' with one hand and mindin' a baby in another."

"I know it's kind strange." He took his glass of water. "Cooking for the chef, but you know, figure you deserve someone else to make you somethin' for once."

"I'm definitely not crazy big nor do I laugh and care for babies," Chris agreed. "I suppose being bossy in the kitchen, and possibly elsewhere in my case, is a good enough trait to share."

Chris prepared his Po-boy carefully, adding the ingredients to the bread until it was a properly huge sandwich. "It isn't strange." He looked at Kudzu and smiled slightly. "It's nice." He took his glass of water to the table and sat down. "How is your work going?"
