Date: March 18, 2011 Characters: Maureen Gibbons, Piers Vanderveld Location: Park Status: Semi privatePrivate Summary: Just two people out for a run Completion: Incomplete
Maureen had woken up super early, full of what Layla would call Thinky Thoughts and hadn't been able to shake them. She was worried about Dess and Adam and everything going on there. She'd have to make a point to give Adam a call sometime in the next week, maybe see if Layla wanted to watch Ethan or something.
But, since she had gotten up so early, she had slipped out of the place without Layla or Charisma knowing and made her way to the park. Hopefully a run would turn her brain off. She was just settling into her pace when she noticed the jogger ahead of her fall, worry instantly setting in. She slowed, carefully making her way to where he had rolled. "Hey, there. You okay?" she asked, kneeling next to him. "Looked like a doozy of a spill."
Maureen laughed, shaking her head. "Just a little early for beer, yeah." She grinned back. Huh. Sunshine really wasn't too far from there. "Which diner?" she asked. "And answer carefully, as I just happen to work at one of the better ones around here. Might hold it against you if you say a different one."
She was distracted with watching him out of the corner of her eye that she almost missed his next question. "Mm, there's a couple of nice ones over by El Centro in Dallas that I like," she said, giving him the park names.
His brow creased a little bit as he tried to remember which one it was. "Sun something I think, they have great cinnamon rolls that the lady gives me extra to take home. After shift I tend to crash there before heading home. Awesome pancakes too.
Piers took note of some of the parks she mentioned. With spring starting he knew he'd want to mix up his routine. "Cool, thanks I'll have to check them out."
Maureen smiled, catching her tongue between her teeth. "That would be Sunshine. Been going there long?" She didn't often work the front, but she didn't think she'd ever seen him there. And she had a feeling she would have remembered him.
Waving a finger, Piers grinned. "Yes, that's the place. Love it. I go there about three nights a week depending on the shift he admitted. Easier than cooking since I never know when a case is going to end or not end so to speak. Do you like it too?"
Ah, she rarely had to work the front at night, so that would explain it. Mostly she went in during the early morning hours. "I do. Of course, they pay me to say that. I'm a baker there."
He almost stumbled again but managed to catch himself and looked at her from the corner of his eye. "So you are responsible for my cinnamon roll addiction? If so I have five pounds to give you."
She bit her lip to stop from laughing as she watched him catch himself from falling again. "Not my fault. 's my boss' recipe. Give all pounds to her, because I certainly don't need them." Maybe someday soon she'd be able to claim a recipe as her own, but for now Dess' were pretty amazing.
"Yes, but it's your hand that adds the butter." Piers jokingly accused her with a grin. "Well, then after the run do you want to join me for brunch? At least I know you like the food there."
Maureen smirked. "Maybe, but I promise I'm gentle with it." And then she realized how that could sound and ducked her head, blushing a little. Focus, Maureen.
Oh, hm. Did she want to go to Sunshine? The whole reason she was running and not there baking out her stress was because the worry stemmed from it. Making up her mind, she said, "Sure, that sounds like fun, actually."
"Yeah, yeah. I'm sure you say that to all the addicts." Piers joked. "I'm lucky that I actually enjoy running or my pants wouldn't fit me anymore."
He grinned as she accepted his invitation. Eating with company was always better than eating alone. "Excellent, since you came to my rescue I'm buying."
Maureen shot him another glance, running certainly did do him well - not that she was going to say anything about that though. "Oh, maybe a few. The cinnamon rolls are definitely our biggest sellers, going by how many of them I have to make a week."
That grin of his was appealing, she thought. Then mentally rolled her eyes. C'm'on Maureen, stop daydreaming over a nice smile and a pair of pretty blue eyes. "You don't have to do that," she said after a moment. "I'm sure anyone else would have done the same if they'd seen you."
Piers laughed at that. "Yeah, I've stopped and picked up half a dozen some nights when I'm too tired to eat and want something tasty when I wake up. Far too addictive and I eat a lot."
He jogged a head of her and then started running backwards so he could talk to her as they ran. It was also good for his quads.
"Of course I don't have to but I want to. Besides you're putting up with my tigger behaviour. I'm always wired when I run."
