Room 308, Wednesday Afternoon

Jan 28, 2009 15:03

Rikku was in her room, reading a letter she'd gotten from Lulu. Okay, so ... things were bad, but not too bad, but still pretty bad. GreatMaybe she should clear her weekend and head in to Spira to see if she could help, any. At least she could make sure Yuna was in good spirits ( Read more... )

Wednesday. There was something about Wednesdays. Reno always had the inclination to do things that made him want to go to the bar later, on Wednesdays.

He and Rikku still had a lot to talk about. A lot to sort out. Something that was cracked and tottering on the edge that needed some glue. Or duct tape. Duct tape was supposed to fix anything. But Reno wasn't quite convinced. Heck, he wasn't really sure was what cracked in the first place. It had just been easier to go off on tangents instead of poking at the fractures.

So, instead of duct tape and glue, he came bearing a laser pointer. Because even if you can't tape it together, at least you can torment the cat.

Or something.

Knock, knock.

"Hey, you," Rikku said, glancing up from where she was stretched out on her bed. Best place for using a laptop, really. "Do you know what kinda cool stuff you can do with satellites?"

'Uplink' sounded like it had some interesting possibilities.

Reno blinked. That wasn't really a start to the conversation he'd been hoping to have, but sure, he'd bite.

"There's plenty to do with satellites," he replied, making his way into the room a few steps. "It's all information stuff, yo. Weather predictions, pictures of the planet underneath it an' pictures even deeper into space, telecommunications. That sorta thing."

A pause.

"... Why?"

"We've got one," Rikku said, shutting her laptop and sitting up. "In Spira, I mean. Must've been left from when they actually had cool stuff like that. The airship can talk to it, but nobody has any idea what it's there for. So I'm researching."

She crossed her legs underneath her and frowned. "... You okay?"

Dawn was going crazy in her room, and needed to talk to someone who could distract her.

Rikku, of course, was first on the list.

"Hellooooooo," Rikku sang out as she answered her phone. "Rikku Industries, Rikku speaking. We have Rikkus in all sizes, shapes and flavors. Come on down!"

Dawn cracked up. "You're cloning now? And flavors? Really?"

"Flavors are probably citrus-related," Rikku giggled. "I make no guarantees to quality. If the clones start singing 'Cuban Pete' then I'm not taking them back. How's California?"

"Hello? Rikku?"

It was a very very embarassed Momoko who was knocking on the door hiding a gaily wrapped package behind her back. It was how many days after the holiday and Momoko had not yet delivered Rikku's gift, let alone talked with her? She was a bad little sib.

"Momoko!" Rikku bounced up excitedly. "Hey! How've you been? I haven't seen you in ages. I should have checked on you by now. Bad Rikku, no cookies."

Momo should duck if she didn't want a glomping.

She didn't duck; why would she duck a glomping? That's silly talk. Unless it was from someone she didn't like. Then she'd probably duck. But she liked Rikku, so she didn't.

"Yay! You're not mad at me!" Momoko laughed happily. "I thought you'd be mad since it's been so long and I haven't visited or talked to you except for that call, and then there was your weird phone call back and I was kind of worried. You have cookies?"

"Totally not mad," Rikku insisted, giving her a squeeze. "What call? That -- oh! Oh, no, oh my gosh, there was a mix-up. Everybody got the wrong calls, a while back. So if I said something stupid or mean, I swear I wasn't calling you. Honest."

She only disentangled herself so she could root through her drawers. "I do have cookies," she announced. "I also have yoooooooooour Christmas gift. Which is so late, oh my gosh. I really suck at holidays, sorry?"
