I counted how many of my 76 livejournal friends post with any frequency these days. For the moment I'm ruling out webcomics and anything else with an LJ feed ( Read more... )

I have experienced a similar phenomenon.

... up to and including the age/period/cohort effects. Unfortunately, me being type-matched for you in age/period/cohort doesn't help.

I blame Facebook and off-LJ blogs, not age. Everyone I read was old already.

I've gradually added more and more famous types like Charlie Stross and Jay Lake and Poppy Brite, and that kind of thing. My page is still busy but it's fewer people I know.

I rarely post but I comment frequently (like now!).

I think I never really intended to be a blogger; I just followed people to LJ from the forum, and I use LJ like I used the forum, to discuss things people bring up.
