Kneesocks didn't see why she had to deal with this. Some human ship got wrecked, blah blah blah, needs repairs, honor the treaty, why's it her problem? Apparently, everyone else in line from the person that should have dealt with the humans all the way on down to her had called in sick today by some bizarre coincidence, so she had to go and negotiate over the price for fixing up the Ancient Whatsit piece of junk.

So, she waited in her office at the central bureaucratic headquarters, arms folded and a sour expression on her horned and bespectacled face, and stared at her receptionist's intercom. At the appointed time, it buzzed, and she was told that the ship's captain had arrived.

"Send her in."

Ruka made her way inside, not too surprised that the main capital's building would have receptionists but surprised that the people of the planet had a treaty with them.

"Hello? I'm Captain Ruka of the starship Ancient Fairy."

...Well, hello there. Kneesocks was expecting someone crusty and old, not young and cute. Maybe this wouldn't be so bad. She noticed the girl was sweating pretty profusely, and was confused for a second before she recalled humans ran at a much lower temperature than her people did. Maybe she could use that. Whatever the case, she pushed a smile onto her face and stood to offer her hand over her desk to be shaken.

"Hello, Miss Ruka. My name is Kneesocks, and I will be helping you fill out the contracts and fulfill the terms necessary to get you and your people home ASAP."

"Wow! Thanks a lot." Ruka wiped her forehead with the back of her hand before using her other hand to shake Kneesocks' offered one. "It's nice to meet you, Ms. Kneesocks."

The Number One in question was following behind her. Someone had to make sure Ruka stayed out of trouble. "Are you sure about this, Captain?" she asked for what was probably the tenth time since they'd left the ship. "Why do we need to negotiate in person, again? Doesn't the communications equipment still work? We could just as easily hail them with that..."

The heat and the strange planet had Erika a little on edge, and the fact that her captain had decided to be the first to meet with the inhabitants didn't help. Erika didn't much like urbanized planets anyway. Her own homeworld was mostly forest.

"I'm sure, Number One." came the response as Ruka wiped her forehead, understanding Erika's concern very well. Normally the Captain didn't accompany the Away teams on missions but in this case... "The communications does work but they'd only receive audio on our end. Personally, I think they'll appreciate a little face-to-face time."

Ruka wasn't quite used to the heat herself, but she trusted Erika with her life and knew she'd made the right choice when requesting her as First Officer.

"Which is why we have a diplomat on board. Why can't he do this? After all, that's what he's paid to do."

Erika could deal with the heat, but she didn't like it much, and being surrounded by buildings still made her just a little edgy. "Haven't these people ever heard of parks?" she muttered to herself.

"Normally people don't always trust diplomats; they want to see either the Captain or their 2nd in command. That's usually why I always make sure you go on the missions before anyone else." Ruka smiled softly at Erika for a moment before refocusing on their prime objective.

She looked around for a moment, able to see at pretty far distances most of the time and hersmile widened just a bit after a few seconds. "You mean like that one down there? It's not that far!"

"This place is very... hot," remarked her number two, Rua who wore his hair in a ponytail. His uniform was already matted to his chest, and got a few appreciative glances from the other women in the area.

"Are you sure it is this way?"

"...Of course!" Ruka vaguely recalled that they were there on a diplomatic mission, barely refraining herself from sending harsh glares at the girls nearest them who dared to even look in Rua's direction!

"We checked over 5 times before leaving the ship and their capital is right in the middle...! Did you SERIOUSLY have to add a cape to your uniform?!"

"This isn't a cape, it's a scarf. Real men wear scarves," boasted Rua, trying not to grin and maintain his stoic demeanor.

"At least it works."

"Which are worn during the winter; here, it feels like summer times two!" Ruka grumbled, smiling lightly at the guys - at least, she was pretty sure they were guys! - whistling her way.

Behind her, carrying an oversized backpack with various 'vital' odds and ends, walked Ryou, bent slightly under it's weight ( ... )

"Not really, but we'll take a short break at those trees. It looks like they have a park similar to what's on Earth." Ruka replied, knowing that Ryou hadn't meant for things to implode the way they had with Izayoi but...this was the safest thing for her until things could quiet down.

Ryou looked up from carrying the luggage at Rena's voice.

"A park? Haven't seen one of those in a while..." She hadn't actually meant to cause all that trouble, but sometimes her impulses got the better of her, and she'd always had a bit of a way with the ladies...

She hesitantly began trying to speak as they approached the copse.

"Captain? I- ah, didn't actually intend for that thing to happen. You know, the shuttle bay incident..."

"I know." Ruka held up a hand while carefully looking for an ideal place to sit. "I'm just glad Comm. Izayoi didn't feel like pressing charges when all was said and done."
