Ron watched carefully, then pointed to a nearby stub of stone. "Can you zoom in on this? I'm trying to figure out if the weaponry was solid state or otherwise."
He watched, face impassive while the MALP did it's job. Mourning for those bodies they would find would be done after the mission. They needed focus now and that focus might appear as a dearth of emotion. Ron and Lan didn't mind what the others thought, they would do their job to the best of their ability.
Jack hadn't gone back to sleep, much like everyone else that had to do with a gateteam. The survivors were tucked away, sleeping in restless fits, undoubtedly.
He was with Sam, sitting through the prepping of the MALP, on hand with coffee, cream.. and a morning donut the moment the messhall even made a hint that it might have personnel in it. The launching of the MALP had the general staring at the activation of the gate, the oh-so-familiar-it-was-like-family *whoosh* as the wormhole engaged, promising safe and swift travel to the other side. He stood up a little straighter at it, and broke his gaze as the announcement of the arrival onto the other side, "The MALP is through."Jack leaned over to look at Sam's screen in close proximity, dark eyes on the information panning through. He still couldn't make out everything that she could on the grainy screen; he was more of an 'on the ground' man than a 'telemetry' one. He liked to feel the solid ground under him, look at things with his own eyes

Dressed in BDU's, coffee in hand, Daniel showed up to watch the MALP launch. He was dressed and prepped to go through the 'gate, though he knew there was little chance of that happening. Still, it wasn't going to stop him from needling at Jack once or twice; depending on how tired Jack was (or how much I annoy him), there was always the possibility that his friend would relent

Teyla spent much of her time supervising and overseeing the re-settlement of the refugees from Tau. The memories and similarities of the loss of her home world, and the loss of her people, played in the back of her mind though she did her best to put it aside. Now was not the time; later, she could mourn in quiet solitude, but until then there was work to be done.
She watched the MALP on its way through the stargate, noting the difference between Tau and Gamma. The other was wet, and in all likelihood they would get very wet as well. It was the rainy season, as the refugees had stated, and they had not exaggerated.
A bonus that it was not raining now. (Not yet.)
The banter between the two Doctor Jacksons drew her attention and Teyla held her observations and questions in check as Daniel turned to Jack. She had been informed that SG-1 would not be going on this mission, but she saw the hopeful gleam in Daniel's eyes even if their superior did not.
Sam shifted the camera some and pushed in on the image Ron indicated. The grainy image focused some, but, as Jack had expected, it didn't necessarily make the picture clearer. It was impossible to discern from this side of the gate whether it was energy blast debris or projectile impact. What was clear was that there was lots of mud and overcast clouds. They'd need to get on the ground to see the true extent of the damage. Sam glanced back to the General.
[James Wu] Through The Gate!sinanjuAugust 1 2008, 04:31:32 UTC
James stepped through the event horizon. There was an brief interval during which he felt a sensation of incredible speed (and an occasional jolt as if he'd changed direction abruptly) and then he was stepping out of a stargate on another planet. A planet that could be literally anywhere in the galaxy--he had no idea of its relative direction or distance from Gamma

James's words brought a hint of a smile to Ami's face. She was still far from being relaxed, but she didn't feel as though she would snap in half at the slightest provocation.
(Good thing I'm unarmed,) Ami thought, not so much looking around as sensing around while the teams fanned out to secure the stargate. (I'd probably shoot a bird or a fish if it startled me.)
Only wildlife pressed into her mind as she moved out mentally feelers, slowly and cautiously. Their enemy -- theirs because Tau was theirs, their people, what remained of their world -- was unknown. They could be telepathic; they could simply be malicious. Either way, Ami didn't want to accidentally encounter something that overwhelmed or incapacitated her.
Dr. Jackson? Captain Harkness's thought came in clearly over the soft, jumbled murmurings of those on the Gamma Teams. No mistaking it, he'd worked with telepaths before

The gate began to light on the side of the Gamma site, the chevrons glowing in the morning light. A voice called out, "Scheduled off-world activation!" in a contained but obviously enthused tone. The fact the gate was dialing most likely meant that things were going well; the thought that things weren't a distant consideration.
At the sound of the announcement, General Jack O'Neill had been waiting for it, futzing.. grabbing the half-eaten donut from Carter's plate from earlier that morning. He'd considered what was left at the bottom of his mug, but desperation hadn't yet set in. He could easily wait until he hit the messhall.
"General O'Neill, Captain Harkness of GT1 reporting home. The 'gate is clear and secure," came the crisp, clean announcement from the other side of the wormhole

Ron smothered a smile at the General's quip, turned to his team and nodded "We'll follow on in ten, Captain" he said now addressing Harkness "keep comms open and if there's trouble we will come running."

Or pretended that he did not.

"The gate area appears secure, sir," she offered.
Time to assemble the troops and send 'em through.
