qqkitty asked about translating the lepic into Chinese! I've never been translated before. How exciting! Do I have any other Chinese readers here? I'd be interested to hear your feedback on the translation when it is finished, & to know more about slash culture in China in general. I really only know a little tiny bit about Japan & yaoi, etc, and there

I'm actually Chinese, but since I was born in the States I don't actuallly read it or speak it as fluently as I do English. ^_^
Wow, that's amazingly awesome. O_o;; I wonder how you say "bugger," "bent," and "Baldwin" in Chinese. O_O;; Be sure to post the translations our way as you get them, I'm actually really interested in seeing how this turns out!

I know!!! I wonder how you say those things too. It should be great. My main hope for this is that it still be funny.

Exactly! I totally feel the same way. Heee....part of me feels like, how could it NOT be funny in Chinese? I hope she does the midget interlude too. Because that's firmly funny, no matter what the words are. Midget, Tiberias, circus, execution orders, semi-public nudity...all the ingredients are there.

Gongratulations :)))
My friend speaks Chinese (actually, she studies Chinese history and culture), so she teached me some simply words and a couple of phrases. I can say "How do you do"? and "Can you give me a cigarette?" But unfortunatlly that's all I can. I can't read any hieroglyph.
And as for translation... *struggles with her shyness* Can I translate The Lepic into Russian?

Yes, of course!!!! The Lepic is going international! How exciting.

Well, that's more than I can say! And I haven't a clue about Russian. I'm so monolingual.

I'll use it as an epygraph before translation :)))))))))))))

I don't think it's really bad. I have my Russian, very poor Italian, poor English and a little less poor Latin (I can say in Latin "bugger", "bent" and "Baldwin". I even know two synonyms of a "bugger") but that's don't make my life so much better. Just a little more fun.
And I haven't a clue about Russian.
Want to know how to say "cucumber" in Russian? :) I think it will be rather funny word for you :)
And do you know how we call Baldwin? Bo-du-an :)

I think you have great English. I've got really really bad French and Spanish, plus english, and I feel extra down on myself right now being in India, where people routinely speak like five languages, and here I am struggling to understand when people speak english to me. What I really admire is when people learn other alphabets. I've tried to learn Tamil and Hindi and it's been hopeless.

I have been a slasher since 9

I don't think I slashed until I was at least 12. I remember slashing the smurfs.
So what's specific to Chinese language/culture/style for slashers who write in Chinese? Do Chinese texts dominate Chinese slash, or American stuff, or a combination?

The slash community of Chinese is greatly influenced by the Japanese origin, so there's a lot of BL/yaoi of manga (the very origin), visual rock bands, tv series and movies. There are Taiwanese version of the yaoi manga and novels and the Chinese slash kinda started from them. The story are mostly of the fantasy genre and school boys/life. There has been a sudden surge of S/M and bondage manga into the market recently.
The Chinese language and Japanese expressions totally dominate the slash in the Chinese community, especially the Taiwanese, even the names and such are translated in phonetic borrowing.
Frankly, I don't read any Chinese fics based on western texts such as LotR and HP - it just feels weird. I read Chinese version of Japanese slash only because I have read them since 13 and my Japanese is shitty.

Anyway, guess it will turn out to be great fun. I'll try to keep the spirit all the way through ^^
