Date: 28 June 2001 Characters: Ron, Kevin Status: Private Summary: Kevin and Ron meet at the Leaky for Kevin before heading off to see the Chudley Cannons behind the scenes Completion: Complete
It had been awhile since Ron had seen Kevin. He didn't even remember him until Hermione gave him a little more to go on. Neville had described him and Ron finally had a fuzzy picture of a bloke in a Ravenclaw uniform sitting in the Great Hall.
Ron was trying not to be sulky that he hadn't won the date with Neville. Something went wrong and there was nothing that he could do about it. He did have a tiny rant minutes before leaving the flat, mostly for Neville's benefit - just in case Neville was jealous or something. But by the time he reached the door of the Leaky, he felt a touch of excitement at being able to show off the Cannons facilities.
He stepped inside and checked out the crowd trying to deduce which bloke was Kevin. A young man, his age, was sitting alone at the bar drinking a pint and Ron approached him, trying to act casual.
"Ron!" Kevin recognised the young man from the Cannons programmes. He stood up and extended his hand. "Good to see you again. How have you been?"
While Kevin had expected he would win a session with one of the artists in the auction, he wasn't disappointed when he found that he'd won a tour with Ron. He hadn't known Ron well at school, but Jack had assured him he'd have a great time with his old Gryffindor teammate.
Kevin indicated the stool next to him. "Still up for a pint before we head out?"
Ron shook Kevin's hand. First impressions went along way with Ron and, maybe, it was because Kevin reminded him slightly of his Neville, but he immediately felt comfortable around him.
"I'm fine. Just fine. You?"
Ron sat down and smiled at Tom while indicating the internationally known gesture for 'I'm having what he's having.'
"Well, I have to ask you, mate - did you even bid on me? Because I only bid on Neville and somehow I won Sirius Black!"
Kevin smiled at Ron's question. "Actually," he admitted, "I didn't. I bid on Susan Bones and Adrian Pucey. I've been shopping for a gift for someone, and so I went for some art. I'm not disappointed with this though. I'm a big Quidditch fan."
He took a sip of his beer. "I hope Neville knows I'm not a man on the make," he joked. "I think Jack was relieved I won you and not someone single. How was winning Sirius Black, by the way?"
