After she was sure that the store was ready for the weekend, Narcissa left it in the capable hands of Darla. It was actually pretty early to go home so she decided to go ahead and drop by the Leaky Cauldron to see how the auction festivities were going ( ... )

"It's very daring but you pull it off beautifully," she said. "I could never wear something like that. I'd be afraid that my breasts would fall out, which would be rather embarrassing at my age."

She confessed, "I've never even worn that lovely corset top and leather skirt I bought on a whim because it's just not something I'd normally wear, but maybe one day I'll be brave enough."

"Good luck with that project," Narcissa said. She smiled. "Michael seems rather shy and reserved so it may take determination but you've certainly got that so I don't foresee a problem."

"I hope you're right," she said. "He can be a little slippery when I want something from him. He still hasn't painted us, after all..." she pointed out.

"No, he hasn't," Narcissa agreed. "And now I don't even have to worry what a lover might think since I'm single."

"I noticed you had won my niece when I first arrived," she said with a sheepish smile. "I just forgot by the time I sat down and had a glass of wine. I've met her once, you know? She seems nice, but that's not surprising as I have fond memories of Andromeda."

She didn't mention the fact that Tonks was also the mother of Lucius' twin children as she was sure Pansy probably knew that. Besides, it wasn't a subject she had any particular interest in discussing. Instead, she asked, "Would you like another drink?"

"That's true!" Pansy said in excitement. "I say we find Michael and make him keep his promise to paint us!" She fluttered her eyelashes at Cissa. "Pretty please?" she said.

"She is quite nice," Pansy agreed. "Of course, I didn't get to talk to her much. The little we said was good, though..."

"Sure," Pansy said. "But don't let me drink too much! If I start hitting on you, cut me off..."

"I've already agreed, Pansy dear," she said with a smile. "It could be fun if he's still interested."

"Well, to be quite honest, I'm pleased that she won my offer over some of the possibilities," she admitted. "I think it would be entirely too awkward if that mishap had led to my being won by Regulus since it's been ages since we've been in contact and the last time I saw Sirius could have led to some awkwardness, as well."

"I doubt you'd start hitting on me as there are many lovely young people around but I promise to stop the drinks if you attempt to do so," she said solemnly before she laughed softly.

"Maybe if you inquired. I've tried to get him to paint me so much, he tends to ignore me..." she giggled.

Pansy rolled her eyes when Cissa doubted she'd hit on her. If she only knew, thought Pansy.

Deciding to change the subject, she said, "We should plan something for Draco and Harry when they return."

"Oh, I couldn't do that," she said. "If he's changed his mind, it would put him in an awful spot of the mother of his employer asked such a thing."

She sipped her wine before she smiled. "Actually, promise not to tell Draco as I believe Lucius wants to do that personally, but he and I are meeting this weekend to discuss arranging a party to celebrate the marriage when the boys return," she confided. "Once Lucius and I discuss some of the details, though, I'd love your help as I seem to remember him usually leaving such things in my hands in the past."

Pansy rolled her eyes. I wonder if I have clout as Draco's trophy wife and future carrier of his sprog? she mused to herself.

"I'd love to help," Pansy assured Narcissa. "And mum's the word, right now." Then she frowned. "Wait a minute... You said Lucius is going to host a party for Draco and Harry? To celebrate their marriage???" Pansy shook her head. "Have you talked to him recently?" she asked. "Lucius, I mean. Draco asked me to check on him, but I've not been over yet. He barely tolerates me so I haven't hurried..."

"No, Lucius and I are planning to host the party. I'm letting him tell Draco, however, as I'm pretty sure his initial reaction to hearing about the wedding was not favorable at all," she explained. "Well, his current reaction probably isn't favorable, either, but we had a nice discussion so perhaps he'll at least try."

"I spoke to him the other day," she replied. "The party was my idea, though I managed quite successfully to make Lucius feel as if it was his. He's far more receptive to suggestions if he thinks he can take credit for them should they be a success. You needn't bother to check on him. He's visiting me this weekend so I'll be certain to let Draco know that all is well."

Pansy snorted at the thought of the probable reaction Lucius had to the wedding. And the likely subsequent reaction. "Well, there's time for him to calm down," she said doubtfully. "But I did promise I'd check on him. I'd hate to break my word. I'll just wait a bit. You can see him this weekend, and I'll check on him at a later date."

"If Lucius finds you barely tolerable, I'd suggest that being a promise you don't bother to keep," she said honestly. "I'm quite sure Draco would understand as he surely knows that Lucius, while polite when necessary, has quite a temper and hates to be bothered when it's not his choice."

"He'll calm down. There's nothing he can really do as he cares for our son and that means he has to accept Harry's place in Draco's life. The alternative is losing Draco again, after all." Narcissa took another drink of her wine and scanned the pub. She thought she saw Bill at the bar and possibly Sirius, but it was too crowded for a clear view. "I'll speak with him this weekend and make sure he owls Draco if Draco is concerned about him."

"True," Pansy agreed, shrugging. She knew Narcissa well enough to know she'd not win this one. "He's concerned about the family line," Pansy said. "It's understandable. My own father is much the same." She looked at Cissa. "Only will you be sure to make sure he seems his usual self? Draco is most worried about the effects of his marriage on his father..." How does one ask someone to see if that person's former husband is acting like a house-elf?

"Of course. I exchanged several owls with him, though, and he seemed perfectly normal. It was a surprise to all of us, though Lucius does dislike Harry so it was probably not pleasant for him," she said thoughtfully. "I know that he'll adjust even if he isn't fond of the union. It just may take him time, but the party is a first step, I think."

"I hope so..." Pansy said doubtfully. "You know, there are a lot of people here that I don't know," she commented. "I thought I got around more than that..." she mused.

"I recognize one or two," Narcissa said as she glanced around. She nodded towards Andy. "That handsome young man is very charming and sweet."

"I think Bill is at the bar," she added quietly. "I've not seen him since he broke up with me. It's odd that I can be all right with how things happened because he can't very well change the fact that he wants men when I'm certainly not a man, but I'm not sure if I'm ready to actually see him yet."

She shook her head. "It's rather complicated, I suppose. I want to be friends with him because I miss him but it still hurts, a little. Besides, he's not bothered to owl me since I made the first gesture so perhaps he's not interested in being friends, after all. This relationship thing is far too complex even when the relationship is over."
