Chapter 11: Dehydrated

Hello and welcome to the next chapter in review! :)

This was a pretty basic chapter, mainly filled with desert, if you ask me.

When we last left Wanderer/Melanie, they had began to spend the night in their car. At the start of this chapter, however, we learn that the car has since run out of gas thanks to a misjudgment on Wanderer's part.

Wanderer, at this point, has started letting Melanie seep more and more through, allowing her to take over in order to survive in this unknown wilderness. After a long, hard, tiring day, they catch some well-deserved sleep -- however, when they wake up, they found they have used up more than half of the water bottle supply.

The next day, they come across an abandoned shed/home in the middle of nowhere on their trek to find the next landmark. In this shack-type-thing, Wanderer finds some water to fill up her bottles (stored in an old, empty bleach container) and a small amount of food supplies.

She also finds old newspapers that are filled with the hate that humans used to put out into their world. This shows us that Wanderer still finds the humans somewhat repulsive/barbaric.

She leaves the shed feeling energized and refreshed, especially with those Twinkies in her system.

Discussion Questions:
1. Being in Wanderer's position, would you have been able to make it through even a little of the desert -- on foot?
2. She was largely motivated with the goal of reaching Jamie and Jared. What motivates you more: loved ones or the promise of food/sustenance?
