LIMS Round One
Welcome to the sign ups for the_histories first LIMS challenge. LIMS means Last Icon Maker Standing and that is what the challenge is about. Participants, those that have signed up, enter icons each week an icon and their maker is eliminated from the contest. This continues until there is only one icon maker left and they are declared the winner.
The LIMS challenge will conform to the premise of this icontest - a historical icontest for everything before 1969.
Please read all the information before you sign up.
Any skill level is welcome to join and participate.
The deadline for signing up for Round One is Sunday, 3rd October. The sign ups will stay open until the first challenge has been posted; if you have not signed up by that point then you cannot participant in the LIMS challenge. The length of this challenge will depend on how many people sign up, if only five people sign up then it will run between five and ten weeks depending on how many people come back in the come back challenge.
I know several people were worried about being discouraged if they were eliminated in the first round so I have tried to include some elements that would keep them involved. There will be a come back challenge where all participants who were eliminated or disqualified may enter icons and, depending on how many people enter, will be allowed back into the challenge. I will also be introducing Artist's Choice icons, the person who was eliminated the round before will get to pick an icon in the next round under Artist's Choice. This means if you were eliminated round three then you picked the icon for round four.
Artist's Choice is just like a Mod's Choice icon except it isn't the Mod who is picking it. I am hoping this will work; it will probably need to be tweaked as the contest goes on because, unlike the Mod, the normal members cannot see screened comments and see the votes. I just wanted to introduce something that would keep people involved even after they have been eliminated.
Rules
01: No animation
02: Icons must fit the LJ icon specifics of 100x100 pixels in dimension and 40kb or less
03: Icons must have been made new for the challenge, do not re-use old icons or premade bases
04: All icons submitted must remain anonymous. Meaning you cannot post your icons until the voting period is over.
05: Use a reliable image host such as Photobucket or Imageshack.
06: Post your icons to the challenge post to enter. Please include the icon image and the url;

07: The rules of each challenge may vary and this will include the number of icons you may enter. Read the challenge information carefully.
08: Initially challenges will run for one week, they may be extended if not enough people enter. I just want people to remember that this is the first LIMS challenge I have run so things may change if they are not working out.
09: If you do not want to enter icons in a certain challenge you must use a skip and let me know. If you do not use a skip you will be disqualified. If you do not tell me you will be using a skip, I will assume you have used your skip to miss out that challenge.
10: When voting you will be asked to vote for icons you consider being of lesser quality and icons you think are of a good quality and you will be asked to give reasons for your choices. These reasons cannot be 'I don't like it,' or'It is over sharpened'. You will be asked to give more detailed reasons such as 'The crop is really good but the text obscures the image and it doesn't really fit with the rest of the icon'. Votes should be based on the quality of the icons.
11: Voting will last for two days and you are not allowed to vote for yourself or get your friends to vote for you.
12 - Skips
Skips are what allow a participant to skip a challenge without being disqualified. When you sign up you are given one skip, you may earn two more skips if you advertise the LIMS challenge at two different places. Your journal and profile page do not count as two different places and promo communities will also not count as I will advertise there anyway. You must link me to where you have advertised or take screenshots to prove it. You can earn skips until the first challenge has been posted.

13 - Comeback Challenge
This is a special challenge for all those that were eliminated or disqualified. The number of participants allowed back into the regular challenge will depend on the participants who enter. Any skips you had before you were disqualified or eliminated will be void when you rejoin the contest, everyone who rejoins will have zero skips.
14: To show that you have read the rules please tell me your favourite kinds of challenges somewhere in your comment when you sign up.
15: You are granted one skip when you sign up but you can only use it after the first challenge. Everyone must enter the first challenge, there are no skips allowed. If you do not enter the first challenge you will be disqualified.
