Very much with you there. Nothing worse than UST that goes on far too long. The payoff is almost never worth it.

True for actual shows, too.

I'm sure there's a sizeable readership for all those types of stories. I am just somewhat aggrieved at what is so often left out.

This is partly linked in a way to negative feedback, how it is not normally acceptable in fannish circles, and criticisms tend to be let rip in posts like this, which are aimed at general trends, and not a particular author or story.

One way to counter trends you don't like, of course, is to encourage the production of stories that are to your liking (feedback, reccing, etc). The only other I can think of is to write them yourself.

Because usually it's the other way around.

Hehe. Realism is perhaps too much to expect.

Haha, oh yes. I will never be a wildly successful writer of fan fiction (I am fully aware of the inherent contradictions of that sentence). I think in many forms of entertainment the lead up to the kiss/sex whathaveyou is kind of hilarious. Like, transplant all that hoop-la into real life.

Have you ever seen the film Bedroom and Hallways? I love it. Tom Hollander has this line in it that I'll ways remember: "All relationships end. You either break up or one of you dies."

You can watch the entire thing on YouTube.
