Okay, I'd guess then that my expecting something like this from John had something to do with it... I just know that the scene between Jeremy and John, where they talk about what happened to the mother who saved her baby without saying what happened to the mother, felt really clumsy to me, like unnecessary teasing, because the logic of the character really drove him to that death. Isobel's suicide, on the other hand, really threw me for a loop - wasn't expecting that at all. I mean, I kind of caught on that she was somewhat unstable, and depressed, but I don't think there was much foreshadowing for her death, like there was for John's.
It's not much of a cliffhanger because of course Damon isn't going to die.
I hope Elijah does the smart thing and has a way to keep Klaus weakened somehow while they're looking for their family's remains, because no way is his little brother to be trusted. I feel a lot of empathy for Elijah; he's in a really conflicted situation.
I love Bonnie, but I wish they could find a way to make her and Jeremy interesting for me as a pair... Or give her some other storyline of her own that isn't related to saving Elena.
