Thank you to everyone who wished me a happy birthday! *big hugs* Special thanks to mistress_tallis for the LJ fireworks, and to my lovely so_spiffed who surprised me with flowers delivered to my student dorm in Shanghai. I've missed you too! I have a few stories in working though, and I'm sooo looking forward to the SCC finale. Hopefully I'll be able to get more involved soon.

Thank you! Yeah, I've always known relatives and family acquaintances in Shanghai, but rarely people my age, and so few of them have been foreigners (like me!). So now I'm finally finding my niche.

French Concession?

The French Concession is an area (larger than a suburb) in Shanghai that was where a lot of French overseas lived since the 19th century, when Shanghai was carved up between foreign powers. The Jewish ghetto used to be just NE of the French Concession, and a lot of other refugees and exiles also lived the area in the early 20th century. Hengshan Lu, where I used to live, and Xujiahui, where I live now, are both within the FC. It's an area having undergone gentrification within in the last decade or so, with lots of cafes, boutiques, and foreigners living around the area.
