I saw The Golden Compass a couple of days ago...and all I was thinking when it finished was: What the hell kind of ending was that?

God, it's so blooody painful, watching it happen. I had a moment of hope when I heard that Tony Gilroy was rewriting the script by Matthew Michael Carnahan (the guy responsible for the brainless The Kingdom and the pretentious Lions for Lambs), but now it's supposedly Billy Ray doing the changes, according to IMDb? An improvement on Carnahan, most definitely, but I can understand why Pitt and Norton would have wanted to bail.

Craaazy regrettable, I think. Depending on how it's done, I suppose. Though I can't see it being done in a way that I'd be satisfied with, that wouldn't mean the rating would block most of the target audience from seeing it. *pooh-poohs the whole idea*

Or maybe I just freak out every time I see "live-action" films based on anything animated.
