You're not the only one who doesn't know what to make of The Last Mimzy. I didn't know after the first trailer and I'm not much wiser after this one. I'm not even sure who the target audience is since there are things in the trailer I'm not sure kids do understand/are suited for.

Yes, exactly it. The trailer did impress upon me what looks like terrific work the child actors are doing in the film, though. They are completely believable in their roles.
The Wall Street Journal (where else? ;) ) has an article about 'The Tudors'. Unsurprisingly, it's more about the competition aspect of the network than about the artistic side. But it also links to a short preview. Since I don't follow it I've no idea if that's been already available elsewhere, but maybe you want to have a look. I can also mail you the article if you're interested.
I think that's the promo that's been on YouTube... The text at the beginning is new though, and set to the music of yet another Ridley Scott film (it's either Gladiator or Black Hawk Down - I can't tell which, since both of the scores have Lisa Gerrard and Hans Zimmer. Also in the promo is music from Scott's Kingdom of Heaven).
Showtime has certainly never had a program on par with scale of production and the quality of Deadwood, the influence of The Sopranos and Sex in the City, or the critical acclaim of The Wire. What it seems to do well is quirky, offbeat dramas (Dead Like Me, Dexter). It looks like the network is trying to match HBO's Elizabeth I with The Tudors.
