The tightly wound aspect of Bullock's character IS so palpable. You *do* half expect him to pull a Popeye-esque "That's all I can stands, I can't stands no more!" SNAP and become untethered or unleashed.

Mania, yes, definitely. But to call it a madness... I've never read Seth described of in such extreme terms.

But perhaps I've always sensed it. Even when he isn't doing anything, isn't moving a muscle, he's still so incredibly watchable.

Yeah, there is always menace to his characterizations -- in general, I think, all of Timothy Olyphant's characters (Go, The Girl Next Door)

Damn commentaries. *cries*

He was talking about how in seeing something of their own damaged past in someone else propels them into a state of heightened emotion and fuels an inexplicable fascination with each other.

I do love Milch's ability to see each character so thoroughly and inside-out. That was a particularly memorable scene, and not just because I love the character of Mister W.
