Majora's Mask and the Future of Zelda

Jul 02, 2008 22:52

I just read an article which amounts to pretty much yet another summary of why Majora's Mask is my favorite Zelda (and favorite game period) of all time.

Which makes me wonder what the next Zelda game is going to be like. I'm really hoping that the next Zelda game follows on the heels of Twilight Princess and is an original story instead of the same ( Read more... )

Nice read!

See, what I really liked about TP was the development of the story--especially in the character of Midna (which reminds me, I want an icon of her...). There was just so much to it that was heartfelt and wonderful and deep and...! Ahaha, I'm rambling! But, I agree! More focus on the characters, something a little different from the 'good guy Link VS bad guy Ganon.' Ocarina did a good job with that, I think--as did Wind Waker. And now I want to replay Link's Awakening! <3333

Midna was great, as was her character arc (in a sense, it's a more pronounced version of Tatl's arc in MM). My feelings about TP's story are very mixed, but Midna was fantastic. =D

*shrug*

So long as it has cool and interesting bosses, I am satisfied.

Although, I would like another group like the ones that helped you in TP, only have them do more.

And more alternate forms/other characters like MM and TP.

Has Majora's mask come out on the virtual console yet?

Sadly, no. =(

It might have something to do with the fact that it required the expansion pack? Just a guess.

In future Zelda games, challenging, but not infuriating bosses would be nice. TP introduced some new, never before seen weapons to Link's arsenal, like the top and the huge flail; to see more diverse weapons enter the series would be good.

But the one thing I would definitely like to NOT see in future Zelda games are annoying sidekicks! OMG I hated Navi in OoT with an unbelievable passion! Midna's a bitch, but at least she does yell HEY! LISTEN! every 5 fucking seconds! For once, if i need help, I want it to be COMPETANT & to shut up when I don't need it.

I agree... I really liked the new items in TP! Unfortunately it seemed like they had limited use.

And, haha, yeah, I see what you mean about the sidekicks. Tatl is to me the perfect sidekick, with Midna as a runner up.

actually, my fiancee brought up a very interesting point. There IS a sidekick even worse than Navi -- that little green gay dude with the balloons that goes "kooloo limpa" or something like that.

I liked Tingle as the weird map-selling guy in MM, but he was SO ANNOYING in all the games after that.

I actually just "finished" the game...as in, I got all of the masks. All that's left, really, is piecing two fairies back together and getting sixteen more pieces of heart ( ... )

I'm glad you really liked MM. <3333

A continuation on his search for Navi, perhaps

Except that would overturn the entire point of MM. One of the main themes of the game is, of course, friendship. Link starts off the game having lost his friend (Navi). His response to his loss is to search for her, venturing deep into the lost woods. But he never finds her; instead, he finds new friendship in the form of former enemies: Tatl and Skull Kid. (And friendship is the entire point of Skull Kid's arc.) The game has a certain sense of sadness and irretrievable loss to it, but it also suggests that even in the face of great destruction and loss, you can touch the lives of others and find new friendship in the midst of it all.

In short: Link can never find Navi because that would defeat the thematic purpose of finding new friendship by the end of MM.

I know it's hinted that he never returns, but...it seemed like a trilogy. Without the Part Three.I see what you mean! Though it was called "Zelda Gaiden" for a while, meaning "Zelda Side-Story ( ... )
