Majora's Mask and the Future of Zelda

I just read an article which amounts to pretty much yet another summary of why Majora's Mask is my favorite Zelda (and favorite game period) of all time.

Which makes me wonder what the next Zelda game is going to be like. I'm really hoping that the next Zelda game follows on the heels of Twilight Princess and is an original story instead of the same ( Read more... )

I'm glad you really liked MM. <3333

A continuation on his search for Navi, perhaps

Except that would overturn the entire point of MM. One of the main themes of the game is, of course, friendship. Link starts off the game having lost his friend (Navi). His response to his loss is to search for her, venturing deep into the lost woods. But he never finds her; instead, he finds new friendship in the form of former enemies: Tatl and Skull Kid. (And friendship is the entire point of Skull Kid's arc.) The game has a certain sense of sadness and irretrievable loss to it, but it also suggests that even in the face of great destruction and loss, you can touch the lives of others and find new friendship in the midst of it all.

In short: Link can never find Navi because that would defeat the thematic purpose of finding new friendship by the end of MM.

I know it's hinted that he never returns, but...it seemed like a trilogy. Without the Part Three.

I see what you mean! Though it was called "Zelda Gaiden" for a while, meaning "Zelda Side-Story."

I too kinda would like to see sword beams. =)
